The pic of the cover for the September/October 2006 issue looks like it was badly scanned. You can get a pic of each issue from 1993 to the present from its own web site. Why not use one of theirs? User:Rlh 1984 (talk | contribs) 02:51, 17 February 2007

This article's "criticism" or "controversy" section may compromise the article's neutrality. Please help rewrite or integrate negative information to other sections through discussion on the talk page. (March 2024)

[edit]

It is currently March 2025, and this is the second page I've looked into today with a "neutrality" flag.

I didn't check all of the things listed in the section in question, but this part:

In August 2017, journalist and Mother Jones contributor Glenn Greenwald criticized an article published by the magazine titled "Are People Disgusted By the Homeless?" by Kevin Drum, which Greenwald asserts uses dehumanizing stereotypes of homeless people.

Is highly misleading. Both articles exist, but if you check the sources, it is actually the Washington Post article where the "disgusting" claim is coming from. Not sure what Glenn was smoking there.

The next few sources relating to Kevin Drum seem to reference this, and not what the citations are supposedly citing. So. There's that. I'm not sure the best way to rewrite or if it should just be removed or what, so I'll leave that for the next curious person. Relevantusername2020 (talk) 02:50, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your concerns. I'm in favor of deleting that entire paragraph and some of the others as well. In addition to your points, this section mostly contains episodes from 2016 and 2017, that haven't stood the test of time in terms of important moments in the history of Mother Jones. But even if they have stood the test of time, notability, DUEness, etc., the section as it is written creates the misleading picture that to the extent that anyone has ever had anything negative to say about Mother Jones, that was all back then. I imagine if I went looking, I could find episodes of MJ criticism from 2019 and 2020 and 2021, etc., that have as much weight as these -- and in my opinion, that weight isn't nearly enough to be in this article.
