This article had a major rewrite and I hope others will also continue to improve it. P0mbal (talk) 21:06, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Glückes" as "Glükkes"

[edit]

In the footnotes I read :

The 1925 Universal Edition spelt "Glückes" as "Glükkes"

it looks suspiciously for me as a misreading of the old German hyphenation rule "ck -> k-k". Thus it can be "Glückes" hyphenated as "Glük-kes", but it does not change, actually, the spelling. Does anybody have the score to confirm this ? 138.231.136.1 (talk) 17:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recordings are getting a bit spammy

[edit]

I think the list of recordings is getting way too long and spammy. Why do we have tenors (including one unknown) and baritones listed? Why do we have so many non-notable, non-Straussian female singers listed? I think we need to trim down this list to females only, and perhaps require a citation as to their recording's notability. In fact, I think the section should be titled "Notable recordings". In any case, I think the list needs to be trimmed. Does anyone agree, disagree, or have any comments? Softlavender (talk) 22:46, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree; it's way too long, but I don't have the expertise to know which particular singers should or should not be included. Your suggestions sound sensible to me, however. Graham87 02:29, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks for the comment, Graham. I'll see if there are any more comments, or solutions, or volunteers to cull, and possibly cite and/or label (with the specific recordings/albums) the list. Or maybe sometime when I'm in the mind to I'll attempt to tackle it myself. :) Softlavender (talk) 02:54, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • UPDATE: There's currently no definitive reason to have this section, and currently no basis upon which to include or exclude any given singer; therefore I've removed it and posted it below. I could be precipitous in doing this and am willing to have it reverted. If so, at the very least the columns should be adjusted so they are more even in length. Another option would be to replace the list with a sentence or two (or paragraph[s], etc.) mentioning the most notable singers/recordings. Softlavender (talk) 00:53, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • I think that some sort of listing needs to be there. However, the most important reference needs to be made to Strauss' own recording of it accompanying the tenor Robert Hutt dating from 1919. This is currently issued on Symposium 1225 (Richard Strauss conducts Richard Strauss) and also Prieser (Strauss: Composer, Conductor, Pianist and Piano Accompanist). The symposium version is on youtube. Byronmercury (talk) 11:43, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There needs to be some basis upon which to include or exclude (such as perhaps a notable review of prominent recordings); otherwise any listing becomes an ever-growing spammy WP:COATRACK, without even specific albums or dates to lend some sort of helpfulness to the reader. The Robert Hutt recording was originally mentioned in the section (see below), in text form. I will add it back, as part of the History section. If you would like to add further info to that mention (such as adding the YouTube link as a citation), that's fine. Softlavender (talk) 12:13, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, the Strauss/Hutt in history is the right thing to do. I agree the Recordings "list" needs some work in terms of selections! Byronmercury (talk) 12:30, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, it wasn't in the original list ... I can't find any evidence of it having been there through WikiBlame, anyhow. It was however added to the list on the talk page, which I've undone, because the talk page list should reflect the list of recordings that used to be on the article. Graham87 07:55, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you, Byronmercury added it to the list below yesterday (or very early this morning) [1], apparently not realizing that it is a preserved listing of material that was removed from the article, and thus should be left as is. Softlavender (talk) 08:12, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Among the numerous recordings of this song, which continue to grow in number, are those by the following notable singers.

Morning or Tomorrow?

[edit]

Morgen can mean both morning and tomorrow - why are we so sure it's tomorrow? Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 20:35, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Read the lyrics. The poem was written by a British/German dual citizen. There is no question about the meaning of the lyrics. Softlavender (talk) 20:55, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
True dual meaning, but read the German lyric to answer your question/ Though the answer could depend on the next day's weather and how busy the agenda is for the day, it surely is tomorrow. P0mbal (talk) 23:16, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Translation is not a word-by-word thing but looking at phrases and context. All translators got it right, we are sure. "Morgen" as morning would almost always come with an article (and without an exclamation mark), not in the title but in the text. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:06, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt - I speak some German and I also have a good friend who lives in Germany. He said that the song's title means Morning. But who knows, right? CookieMonster755 (talk) 15:40, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:58, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
