Moral Enhancement is a supercategory of Moral Biomedical Enhancement

[edit]

"Moral enhancement [1] (abbreviated ME[2]), also called moral bioenhancement (abbreviated MBE[3])" While the terms are often used interchangeably, Moral Enhancement (ME) is more than Moral Biomedical Enhancement (MBE) as discussed in the 'Different_kinds_of_moral_enhancement' section. It would be great outline a taxonomy of different approaches to moral enhancement. --Knightcap (talk) 02:23, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Knightcap, I agree with you that moral enhancement is a supercategory of moral bioenhancement. Such a taxonomy of moral enhancement might include artificial intelligence, bioscience, culture (e.g., arts, literature, theatre and film), and education (e.g., character education and values education). Such a taxonomy might also include politics – or political science – and religion with some discussion of their historical approaches to the elevation and acceleration of moral progress. LSE project

[edit]

We will be working on this page in March-April 2019 as part of the LSE project "Genes, Brains and Society". J.birch2 (talk) 08:24, 26 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. I’ve just reverted huge swathes of new stuff because I found it impossible to separate the wheat from the trash of all the changes since March 27th. If I’d known it was an educational project of some kind, I would have done exactly the same. Roxy, the dog. wooF 14:11, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Removed more bullshit, plenty more in the article which I plan to remove soon, if nobody comments here. -Roxy, the dog. wooF 13:28, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This is a request not to remove "bullshit" without first discussing specific issues here. The editors are students and the work is of variable quality. We take responsibility for it and would like the opportunity to correct failings and problems. J.birch2 (talk) 15:56, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, wikipedia takes responsibility for it, and we work to Policy and Guidelines. This is an encyclopeadia, not a forum for students to thrash out ideas. I see no reason to refrain from removing unencyclpoeadic material. -Roxy, the dog. wooF 16:20, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In saying we take responsibility for it, I did not mean to suggest it was exempt from Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Of course, we all try in good faith to adhere to those policies and guidelines. Newcomers are not always familiar with all of them. J.birch2 (talk) 07:13, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise for the recent plagiarism incident on behalf of the student involved. The student has been reminded of the relevant policies and their importance. J.birch2 (talk) 15:00, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AI Moral Enhancement: Upgrading the Socio-technical System of Moral Engagement

[edit]

Hello. I am interested in enhancing this article while drawing from new scholarly publications including:

Volkman, Richard, and Katleen Gabriels. "AI Moral Enhancement: Upgrading the Socio-technical System of Moral Engagement." Science and Engineering Ethics 29, no. 2 (2023): 11. (link)

I intend to enhance this article to indicate that moral enhancement includes two main subtopics: moral biomedical enhancement and a sociotechnical approach. In the sociotechnical approach, individuals, groups, and organizations could utilize technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence systems, asking questions with moral components to receive one or more answers. These answers could be the result of debates or other syntheses of contents from multiple subsystems trained to answer while emulating historical or contemporary philosophers, or while utilizing certain points of view, schools of thought, or wisdom traditions.

Any comments, questions, or general feedback? Thank you. AdamSobieski (talk) 06:41, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To preserve as much of the current article's content as possible, without any objections, I'm planning on:
  1. moving the current article from "Moral enhancement" to "Moral bioenhancement"
  2. creating a new article for "Moral technological enhancement" or "Moral sociotechnical enhancement"
  3. editing the "Moral enhancement" article so that, instead of redirecting, it includes new, general-purpose content with sections for the two subtopics of: (1) moral bioenhancement, and (2) moral sociotechnical enhancement, with these article sections hyperlinking to the more specific articles
So, there will be, in total, three encyclopedia articles:
  1. Moral enhancement – a new article about moral enhancement, in general, which links to the following two other articles
  2. Moral bioenhancement – the current article
  3. Moral sociotechnical enhancement – a new article with sources including, but not limited to, the 2023 publication mentioned above

Good news. I just uploaded a first draft of one of the new articles: Artificial intelligence and moral enhancement. AdamSobieski (talk) 10:41, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good news. I just moved this article to moral bioenhancement and created a new article Moral enhancement which encompasses artificial intelligence, bioscientific, cultural, and educational approaches. Next, I will spruce up this article for this new structure, removing mentions of the general topic which is now at Moral enhancement. AdamSobieski (talk) 06:03, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This has to be a consensus decision, not a discussion between you and yourself. Go to WP:RM. Liz Read! Talk! 06:37, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, it didn't look like anybody from the MBE article wanted to or were available to participate. AdamSobieski (talk) 06:42, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Liz, do you know how to get at the content that I created for the more general-purpose Moral enhancement article, the article with subcategories for: artificial intelligence, bioscience, culture, and education, e.g., character and values education? Is there a hyperlink to that edition of the article somewhere? AdamSobieski (talk) 06:51, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
