History
[edit]I have removed the reference to "first desribed by Ker Gawler (1805)", since he is merely the authority for the specific name. The plant was listed in Linnaeus (1753) as Iris sisyrinchium, citing an earlier description by Clusius (1601) under the name Sisyrinchium majus.
