Title
[edit]It's a 10 second matter to change the article's title if you want me to do it, it may not follow Wikipedia:Naming conventions. Could probably be changed to 'Montreal East Refinery (Shell Canada). It's not a big issue to me though, up to you. -Falcon8765 (talk) 05:25, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- I will demand to change the convention about the name of the oil refineries. (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:03, 1 August 2009 (UTC).

Shell Canada - Montreal East Refinery → Montreal East Refinery — According to the WP:naming convention the article naming should prefer what the greatest number of English speakers would most easily recognize. It also says that the names of Wikipedia articles should be optimized for readers over editors, and for a general audience over specialists. Shell Canada - Montreal East Refinery is not the most easily recognized name neither. Most English sources refers to this refinery as Montreal East Refinery. If necessary, Montreal East Refinery (Shell Canada) could be used as proposed by user:Falcon8765. Beagel (talk) 19:52, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
- Comment There are several refineries in Montreal East. Are the other ones (not from Shell, but other firms) not also called the Montreal East Refinery (or French version of that) ? 76.66.193.221 (talk) 05:27, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, Gulf Oil has also a small refinery called Montreal East Refinery and several other companies have had a refineries by the same name. However, none of them has its own article in Wikipedia. As there is only one article about the refinery with the same name, technically there is no need to add a company name to the title. At the same time if we expect that these article would be created, the proposal Montreal East Refinery (Shell Canada) seems logical.Beagel (talk) 20:05, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Montreal East Refinery seems to be the best choice... This article needs additional third party references though, so that we're not making decisions like this based on personal opinions.
— V = I * R (talk) 05:55, 10 August 2009 (UTC)- Shell Canada itself uses name Montréal East Refinery.[1] Reuters uses Montreal East refinery.[2] Beagel (talk) 20:42, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've modified my opinion slightly by dropping the parenthesized disambiguator, above. IAW WP:DAB there's no need for it, since it doesn't (currently) collide with anything else.

Article title change required? -- no longer a refinery
[edit]As you all know, Shell Canada closed the plant and is now in the process of converting it into fuel storage terminal (it may already be complete, I'm not sure how much work is involved). It is no longer an oil refinery, and likely the official name has been changed to reflect this. For that reason the name of the article needs to change. Does anyone know the new official name? Could it simple be: "Montreal East Storage Terminal"?. Beyond that, it's also necessary the rest of the article be substantially updated to reflect the fact it is now just a simple fuel storage depot.--Apple2gs (talk) 04:37, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- It served long time as an oil refinery and it is a notable as (former) oil refinery. Therefore I think that the current name is better. To reflect the conversion from oil refinery to oil depot, is enough to change the tense when taking about oil refining. Beagel (talk) 05:00, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough, you have a point. At the very least let's leave the name as-is for now, though it will be interesting to see if Shell officially changes the name in the near future. If that happens, then we'll have to re-evaluate a title change.--Apple2gs (talk) 06:31, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
