Year of birth?
[edit]Every source gives her year of birth as 1938. However this article in The Age shows her as a member of the Melbourne University Dramatic Club (appearing with Barry Humphries) in April 1954. If 1938 is correct she would only have been 15 at the time. In a 2007 interview she said "I've always lied about my age". 203.7.140.3 (talk) 01:34, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
And in [1] this article from 1956 it says she married "last year". 203.7.140.3 (talk) 02:45, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- The obit in the Sydney Morning Herald says 15 September 1933.[2] 121.45.218.131 (talk) 13:42, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Nationality
[edit]Although born in Tonga, Maughan had Australian parents and was not Tongan by nationality. Her birth was registered with the British High Commission because there was no Australian High Commission in Tonga at the time, but she was Australian. In preparation for her move to England in 1963, she acquired a British passport, and thus held dual citizenship, at least for a time.
