Change the name of the article

I've never heard it called momijigari. It's usually called kouyou. The Japanese wiki has it as 紅葉 or kouyou, with momiji as a secondary pronunciation, but it's certainly not one in common use.

Hi VsevolodKrolikov, The Japanese Wikipedia article ja:紅葉 is about a much larger topic (the phenomenon, the causes, the timing etc.), and links to the article Autumn leaf color in the English Wikipedia. It has a section, 「紅葉狩り」, about momijigari. Kōyō (in Wikipedia's Hepburn style) means the colored leaves of autumn; momijigari is the practice of going to view them. It's similar to the distinction between cherry blossoms and hanami. Since we already have an article about autumn color, and this article concentrates on the practice of viewing the autumn leaves, I'd suggest not renaming it.

But I'm not the only editor. If you'd still like to rename it, why not make the suggestion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan. Lots of editors read that regularly, whereas perhaps only one or two will read Talk:Momijigari in the coming months. You might find support, or you might find convincing reasons to keep it as it is. OK I'll raise it over there. The problem is that while kouyou means autumn leaves, Japanese (in my experience) tend to say kouyou for what the article calls momijigari. In that respect it's different from hanami and cherry blossom, as only one is used to describe the viewing.VsevolodKrolikov (talk) 09:59, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
