Merge and reference

[edit]

There is so much redundancy on the weight average molecular weight and number average molecular weight pages it seems sensible to bring everything into one place.

Also, someone has got to have a decent textbook somewhere that defines this stuff. (I don't). Anyone want to add a reference? Irene Ringworm 04:48, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent notation for averages

[edit]

Why is the number-average molecular weight (for example) written as Mn with no overbar in the Definitions section and the main Measurement section, but as in the number-average molar mass subsection? I think the notation should be consistent within the article for this quantity. And also for the weight-average and the Z-average. Most textbooks do have an overbar to show each average quantity.

We could also use longer and more visible overlines, as in the article Degree of polymerization which has the equation . Dirac66 (talk) 20:49, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
