Spoiler avoidance

This is a very tricky film to handle in terms of spoilage... so tricky in fact that the movie was completely unpromotable when it was new... however, an uninformed "blind" viewing of the movie has far greater impact than one which is padded in advance with knowledge of the film`s main plot. DeJarnatt went to some lengths to orchestrate a handy little fakeout which is quite thoroughly spoiled--EVEN BY MENTIONING THAT THERE`S A MAJOR PLOT TWIST. If you`re expecting nukes--or if you`re expecting ANYTHING, the fakeout is blown. • This is true. I like this movie because when I first watched it, I had no idea whatsoever what the movie was about; my dad had rented it and I had not even seen the movie title. In retrospect, this was a good thing, as the Spanish translated name was La Noche del Holocausto (Holocaust Night) which gave away something real bad was going to happen. Anyway, I watched this without knowing what was going to happen, and I really got shocked just like Harry does when he gets the phone call. The only thing I didn't have was the doubt on it being real or not; I was 8 when I watched this so I still had the "believe everything" mindset when I watched this, so for me it was a given that the war was real.

I like this movie because of this unexpected twist, and because of its uniqueness on the point of view it shows on a nuclear war: right on the moment it happens. Most movies go on the aftermath, with little or no detail of what happened. 148.244.43.170 01:32, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Harry the Doomsayer

I have not found anything online, but perhaps there is something in print to back up the theory that the entire plot of this film is nothing more than a manifestation of Harry`s pessimistic attitude about love (ME get a girl? THAT`LL be the day!). It`s just a thought really, but is partially backed up by the fact that Harry is seen at the very start of the film practicing his trombone--in the dark--with Julie`s photo affixed to the end of it. Harry`s encounter with Julie and his subsequent going to sleep takes place entirely in daylight, and upon wakening Harry is immediately rushed and hurried. The scene with him practicing trombone cannot have taken place in the film`s plot! But I am not going to add this to the article without some backup.24.165.210.213 09:44, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the unusual prologue mentioned above (Harry playing the trombone with Julie's picture attached to it), I was reminded of movies like Sunset Boulevard, which is, essentially, a movie narrated by a dead man. The beginning of Sunset Boulevard features a shot of the main character's lifeless corpse (played by William Holden) floating in a swimming pool, while Holden delivers a wry commentary in voiceover. Then the film proceeds as a flashback, with occasional narration by the presumed "dead" protagonist. This makes the prologue of Miracle Mile all the more odd--is Harry in Heaven, Hell, Limbo, or is the entire movie some sort of fever-dream or hallucination? I don't mind the ambiguity--in fact I rather enjoy it. Release & Distribution

Tar/Water

I can't say for sure myself, where exactly the helicopter was meant to crash, but I just saw the movie and watched again the end... the actors don't get black from the tar, besides the typical melting point from tar (at least the one I remember working with) was too high to form a proper conversation if you are half way inside of it... but maybe the director just didn't think through the thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.115.130.161 (talk) 16:49, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

End of the Cold War - 1989

Movie was finally released just months before the Berlin Wall came down, after everybody had already stopped being afraid of a nuclear holocaust. If this had been released even 5 years earlier, it would have terrified people.
