Chief Whip?
[edit]The article says: "The role combines the duties of Chief Whip and Leader of the House in other national legislatures."
Is this accurate? My understanding is that Scott Barrie MSP is Labour's Chief Whip, not Margaret Curran MSP. --Mais oui! 10:05, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- There doesn't seem to be anything in the Scottish Executive site that clarifies the role. Note that George Lyon is both the Lib Dem whip and Deputy Minister for Parliamentary Business. Catchpole 11:25, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
I found the reasoning for that here: [1]
MISS FERGUSON: It’s a rather strange job in some ways. I suppose it can best be likened, if you were to take the Westminster example, of a combination of Leader of the House and Chief Whip. It’s my job really to make sure the Executive’s business gets through and gets on to the floor of the chamber, but also to make sure the votes are there to deliver the right outcome. So it is a very interesting job and allows me to see across a breadth of areas I probably wouldn’t see in any other job.
Perhaps the wording could be changed from "combines the duties of" to "is similar to"? Thanks Globaltraveller 17:12, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
