Title of Takahashi

[edit]

As reported, Minami Takahashi has been named as "AKB48グループ総監督" in August 24th, 2012. This position is more like a chief captain of all AKB48 groups, but the possibility of management duty for this position could not be ruled out. The current version is "General Director", and "General Manager" in template. ja:監督 could be translated into both "Director" and "Manager", depends on different situation. Any suggestions?

kantoku/監督 can be translated as "director, superintendent, supervisor, coach, foreman, manager, overseer, controller, boss" according to my dictionary - but from what I've seen in most fan works and references, it seems to be most often translated as "captain". It's sort of a flexible term in Japanese, at least colloquially, and it probably calls for a similarly flexible word in English. (Though I should also note that soukantoku/総監督 in my dictionary is "general manager" specifically, so I guess that would be my vote.) -Wohdin (talk) 04:57, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
