Common name
[edit]"Military ground snake" is a nonsensical common name that results from a mistranslation of the scientific name miliaris.
"miliaris" is Latin for miliary, which refers to the granular appearance of millet seeds - an apt description of the pattern of this species, where each scale bears a light spot, giving a granular appearance.
