Mikurri is a man

[edit]

@Gnangarra: This edit says "Mikurri is a man ...", but neither reference for that paragraph says that (in English). [1] says "miku-rri ‘get jealous’ (the associated Dreaming story is about jealousy)". Is there another reference that says Mikurri is the name of the man? @Mitch Ames: Mitch is the name of the man, therefore Mitch is a woman? Gnangarra 05:02, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Which specific words in which reference are you asserting states (or unambiguously implies) that Mikurri is the man's name?
The words "miku-rri ‘get jealous’" in [2] could be interpreted as:
  • miku-rri means "get jealous" (or some variant thereof), but is not a person's name.
  • miku-rri is the name of a person who gets jealous - in which case it is the name of the older wife ("The old one used to eye the young girl with jealousy ...").
  • (possible but unlikely) miku-rri denotes the person who causes the jealousy, or of whom someone is jealous - in which case it is the name of the younger wife.
I can't see any way of interpreting the ref to mean that Mikurri or miku-rri is the name of the man. Mitch Ames (talk) 05:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mitch Ames: @Greyjoy: Please note that the inclusion of the image of the Mikurrunya Hills is disrespectful to the Ngarla People. Please feel free to contact Wanparta Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (ICN 4659) who hold the Ngarla People's native title rights and interests on trust for further information or clarification. In regards to incorrect information being published, please note that the site is registered with the Western Australian Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage and the statement that the site is located on Nyangumarta country is incorrect. These are two examples. The issue is not necessarily the publishing of the article but rather that it needs to be respectful of the Traditional Owners.

Regarding the image, please see WP:NOTCENSORED.
Regarding the location, if you could link to and quote the relevant document that demonstrates that Mikurrunya Hills is not on Nyangumarta country, we'll be happy to correct the article.
Demonstrating that Mikurrunya Hills is not on Nyangumarta country could be done by, for example:
  • A statement that it is on some other specific country. (E.g. https://issuu.com/form-wa/docs/doreen_chapman says "Mikurrunya, a range of hills on Ngarla country...")
  • A definition of the extent of Nyangumarta country, so that we can easily see that Mikurrunya Hills (eg from the coords) is not on it

@Mitch Ames: Thank you Mitch Ames. Please see the following map of the Ngarla Determination Area. Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).https://www.wanparta.com.au/about The site is located within the purple area (WCD2013/001; Ngarla Overlap Proceeding; WAD6185/1998, WAD77/2005. Is there a higher resolution version of that map available? The image on https://www.wanparta.com.au/about does not have sufficient resolution to resolve the issue. For example I can't read the names of most places, roads etc. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:44, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that http://www.nntt.gov.au/searchRegApps/NativeTitleRegisters/Pages/NNTR_details.aspx?NNTT_Fileno=WCD2013/001 might provide a more detailed map.
Does "Overlap" mean "overlap with some other country", which might mean that the Hills are in both Ngarla and other (Nyamal?) country?
Does "Proceeding" in WCD2013/001; Ngarla Overlap Proceeding mean that the application is still in progress?
