  • He also beat Lasker +2-1=3 in a sponsored Rice Gambit tournament in Brighton
  • Although Chigorin had a heavily negative record against Lasker (+1-8=4)

Aren't these statements contradictory? +2 in one tournament and +1 as a lifetime score. --AGP 18:15, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The "themed" (in this case Rice Gambit) tournament is something outside of standard chess; they are normally regarded as a novelty sideshow, but in this case had an experimental edge also. Consequently, as they don't follow the full rules of chess (different start position, variable time limits etc.), they don't affect a player's official record in serious play. I will attempt to clarify this in the article. Brittle heaven 09:11, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish?

[edit]

This page reproduces an article that claimed that Chigorin is Jewish. Has this conclusion been rejected by other sources, seeing how this article makes no mention of Jewishness? Toccata quarta (talk) 05:35, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
