Political Views
[edit]Recently, Fitzpatrick's ideology was changed from "moderate" to "conservative" by a Wiki user, but there have been no justifications made for using either label. It would help to sort out Fitz's positions on the issues, based esp. on his voting record thus far, to better define his orientation. Examples:
- Moral issues: Fitzpatrick identifies himself as "pro-life," supporting restrictions on abortion and opposing embryonic stem cell research;
- Environment: Fitzpatrick touted his record on preserving open space as Bucks County Commissioner during his run for Congress; as Congressman, he has voted against drilling in ANWR;
- Budget: Fitzpatrick (if I recall correctly) voted against the party line on budget cuts to Medicaid, student loans, low-income housing, etc., but supported the Bush Administration's latest phase of tax cuts; if not this, he eventually voted with the GOP on some final edition of the budget reconciliation bill that House Democrats all voted against.
I will have to fact-check these before they are added, but it would help to elaborate on how Fitzpatrick won his district in a region where John Kerry outpolled Bush by a similar margin. --Pastricide 19:56, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
The ACU gave him a 60 and a pro-environment Republican group rated him quite high[1]. He sounds moderately conservative outside of the abortion issue where he's more strongly conservative.(If he's a Catholic with 6 kids I'm thinking he may stick to his faith's positions on many issues, being pro-environment could fit that)--T. Fundraiser on Capitol Grounds
[edit]Added a section devoted solely to the alleged fundraiser Fitzpatrick held on Capitol grounds. Tried to be balanced, but first time doing this. Please discuss here before reverting my edits. Peacewashlove (talk) 01:27, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Taking the oath
[edit]He did not take the "remotely," whatever that means. He was not where he was supposed to be. He had to take the oath a few days later and he had his votes before that point invalidated. He made a mistake. Not even a big one, albeit amusing. It was not part of a plan or an attempt to do anything. My congressman messed up. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 01:57, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- The source provided says:
- "Fitzpatrick and Sessions were at a reception when the swearing-in took place. They took the oath in front of a large screen TV before about 500 supporters inside the Capitol Visitors Center."
- "...CREW said both Congressmen made an invalid attempt to take their oath and then proceeded to participate in official House business."
- I believe my 2nd edit attempt reflects this.CFredkin (talk) 03:26, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- I am sorry to say, at the moment I am not sure what your second edit said. Perhaps I was wrong. I think we can agree that he failed to take a valid oath at the scheduled time. Taking an oath in front of a TV certainly does not count. After all, he had to get sworn in a few days later by the speaker. We ought not to bow this out of proportion, but it is an interesting and amusing passage. Could I ask you to take another stab at it in light of these comments? I am sure we can come to an agreement. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 09:52, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I'll update my edits. Then you can either edit them, or we can discuss here. Thanks.CFredkin (talk) 16:53, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
