[edit]There is no cited biographical information that reports Baker was a case officer/operations officer or qualified in any Directorate of Operations (DO) specific career field. In fact, Baker was in the Directorate of Administration in the Office of Security. He was administrative employee who was responsible for such tasks as physical security (locks, sensors, safes, etc.) and processing security clearances. I suggest anyone who doubts that contact any retired senior official from from the DO and ask them. Mr. Baker portraying himself as a "covert field officer" is akin to a common Navy sailor portraying themselves as a Navy SEAL. Whole websites are created by military members to out those kind of posers. As the actual DO case officers cannot perform such tasks, it is up to the general public to correct such errors. No one should begrudge Mr. Baker's desire to purse a career in entertainment, but it should be done given truthful background information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.165.157 (talk) 16:45, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Per the articles citation, "Ex-CIA Operative Demystifies Spies" -- Sunday, January 23, 2005
"Baker should know. After about 15 years with the CIA, the Vienna resident moved to the private sector to become CEO of security firm Veritas Global. Like any good spy, he developed and nurtured a variety of contacts -- some of which led to his consulting for A&E's British spy import "MI-5."
Having worked with both real-life and TV operatives, Baker understands the pop-culture boom in the spy trade."
Article reports he worked for the CIA. Article reports he joined a security company after leaving CIA. Security. A security guy gets a job with a security company.
Then, "Having worked with both real-life and TV operatives..." -- NOT that he was an operative, but reports he worked with real-life operatives. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.165.157 (talk) 18:02, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
I see no evidence here for your claims that Baker was in the Directorate of Administration in the Office of Security. The overwhelming evidence from the internet describes Baker as a covert operations officer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.246.49.22 (talk) 18:19, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
See, for example: "Mike Baker, a former CIA operations officer" (source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3536644.stm) "Mike Baker, 44, a former covert field operations officer for the Central Intelligence Agency. " (source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A27231-2005Jan21.html) "Mike Baker was a CIA field agent for about 14 years, and counterterrorism was one of his specialties." (source: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0311/09/sm.01.html)
Are you telling me the BBC, Washington Post, CNN, etc are all wrong but you are right despite the fact that you have no proof?
Also, what about: http://www.afio.com/sections/wins/2011/2011-11.htm#baker Do you think that the Association of Former Intelligence Officers would include one of Baker's articles in its newsletter if he were misrepresenting his background? That seems unlikely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.246.49.22 (talk) 18:53, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Nothing in the Association of Former Intelligence Officers explains his role as an employee at CIA. Yes, the news media consistently overstate and embellish, because they are in the business of attracting readership. They also routinely misidentify employees like Analysts -- who reside in the Directorate of Intelligence -- and a security administrators from CIA's Office of Security. Can you actually tell me the difference between "Covert" and "Clandestine"? I bet you can't. I bet the reporter at the Post can't either. If you like simply note he was CIA employee and leave it at that, but remove the entertainment industry embellishment. Real life isn't 24 or "The Unit". Stick to editing Boy Scout badges here and leave the work to the grown-ups. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.165.157 (talk) 23:29, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
