Article merging

[edit]

The original middleweight article is directed towards the sport of boxing, not mixed martial arts. The two weight classes pertain to two completely different sports and feature unique histories that do not in any way intertwine and are complete unrelated. The weight classes are only similar by name; by lumping the two articles together, you create a false sense of uniformity between the classes. In reality, there is no uniformity; for instance, there are many weight classes in boxing that are not even recognized in mainstream mixed martial arts. We've created these articles for mixed martial arts weight classes because there was a great deal of detail given to the sport by the state athletic commissions in regard to weight classes for mixed martial arts. This, combined with the unique history of weight classes in mixed martial arts (read Mixed martial arts weight classes for more information) should merit the creation and maintenence of articles for mixed martial arts weight classes. Who deserves mentioning?

[edit]

I think you need to use some moderation when you're adding names to the list. Make sure the titles are accurate, too. Murilo Bustamante a "current" PRIDE contender? He hasn't contended for a title since Shockwave 2005, and his next fight is in DEEP; it's arguably that Bustamante isn't even a PRIDE fighter right now. Use some discretion when you start piling names onto the list, and really think about who is a noteable middleweight – that is exactly why we have the list, in the first place. You might have a lot of favorites who are not necessarily noteable. That's okay. I have a lot of favorites that aren't on the list. But where do you draw the line? If you don't have any sense of discrepancy for the list, we could wind up having hundreds and hundreds and a list of every contender for every middleweight champion in every organization. Just keep it somewhat in check; the point to having an article is to make sure it's readable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.71.161.219 (talk) 17:55, 12 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]
