Sponsors section

Is this really necessary? I think it should be removed as it isn't really significant enough and no other club related pages seem to include this data. Thoughts? --Cunners 15:47, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm removing them since there were no objections. I'll place them here as I'm working on a crest and colours section that can probably incorporate them back in

I've just added a kits and crest section to the article. Feel free to make any improvements or changes guys. I think a picture of the old (pre-1973) badge would be useful but I couldn't find one anywhere.--Mofs 17:39, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Club Records

I'm working on a club records page which I will add and link in to the main article shortly, any help would be appreciated. Cunners 14:52, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Banktruptcy

I've just cleaned up this section just make it both a little more encyclopaedic and informative. I've also added the first match of that season as a "notable match" and added an article on Bulkhaul Limited (Stevie Gibson's company) in case anyone was looking for some info or wants to improve it. I just felt the below text was a bit point of view, though feel free to discuss it here. I think that if should go anywhere, it should go in the Steve Gibson article.

"Gibson was founder and chairman of Bulkhaul Limited, which was established in 1981 and is dedicated to the global transportation of bulk liquids, powders and gasses. He has often been seen as a fan funding his passion, rather than a businessman working for profit. This meant that the fans were quickly won over and he continues to be held in the highest regard by the fans of his club."

--Mofs 23:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

History of the Club section

I think this article is ripe for a pruning and a shuffle. I'm gonna work on a good summary for the history of the club to replace the large section present currently and create a "History of Middlesbrough F.C" article covering everything in more detail from the stuff already present. --Mofs 22:52, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Right - have created a page and added it to the Middlesbrough F.C. category-thing so if anyone wants to add anything to the page (or conversely whittle down the history on the main page please feel free. Mofs 12:07, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

The 3 Points Deduction

Does it require a separate page? The reason I ask is that it was a major event with lots of machinations and yet seems to get scant treatment in either of our histories. There's a lot of material out there on it and it remains the only points deduction in Premier League history.

"Current Season 2006-07" page?

Just looking at the York City F.C. page, I was just thinking it might be a good idea to start season by season in detail pages, citing records for the year, major details, sequences etc. What do people think? Mofs 18:40, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Right have started a page on this. I think a 1996-97 season one would be good too. Feel free to contribute! :) Mofs 00:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Sounds a good idea! Based on the layout of the York City page it probably wouldn't be a great idea for us to go back and fill in a list of all events this season, though doing one for next season would make sense. I'm not sure about listing every match result in the league, but I'd do so for cup ones, and a full list of goalscorers for sure. --Simmo676 18:55, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Got a template for Middlesbrough F.C. Season 2007-08 ready for as soon as we have something to go on. Kits/ Sponsors etc need to be there before it'll go "public.Mofs 17:29, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

References

Just done a major update of the page including mostly including references, adding a picture of an early kit, removing a non-notable match and some spelling mistakes. --Simmo676 16:53, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Doing some more updates. Having referenced lots of stuff, now instead changing the format of them all, based on Chelsea F.C.'s page. Basically, the idea is to get the article up to Good Article and then aim for Featured Article status in the future. --Simmo676 14:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Right - now I've got access to my old Boro shirts and programmes, what do people want? In particular, I have the programmes from both the first ever game at the Riverside AND our first ever home UEFA Cup game [a Red Square one]. I also have the shirt from the Carling Cup final. What do people think about putting them in? I havea digital camera and a scanner if people have suggestions.--86.29.25.223 09:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Right - I added the image of the "Red Square" programme. It can only be fairly used for this section so PLEASE don't use it for anythig else - even though it is from the Banik Ostrava UEFA Cup game. :D

I've set this page up ready for next season. I think the Mark Viduka details and any further transfers in/out should go in this section. My gut feeling is that I'll put this page "out in the wild" once the new shirt is released. if you look at the page you may notice I've put in the pre-season friendlies. If I did a similar thing when the Premiership fixtures come out later in June would that be copyright infringement? Cheers--Mofs 10:04, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

I think there's definately some sort of thing against it. Briefly looking through the PL website I saw this in the fixtures terms and conditions.

No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any way or by any means, (including photocopying, recording or storing it in any medium by electronic means), without the written permission of the copyright/database right owner. Applications for written permission should be addressed c/o Football DataCo Ltd, 11 Connaught Place, London W2 2ET

So I think there's probably something against you doing so, unfortunately. --Simmo676 12:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
I guess we'll just have to put in the results as they come then. I've seen numerous websites show the results without the full list.--Mofs 16:06, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Future fixtures are a definite no-no - Football DataCo are notoriously militant in enforcing their copyrights. Past results are uncopyrightable as they relate to historical fact. Oldelpaso 16:00, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Season by season history

I'm in the process of developing a detailed description for past seasons (at least the modern ones that I can find info for). I've done 2 so far which are 2005-06 and 2004-05. If anyone wants to have a look at them and add/delete stuff then feel free. I've also linked them in with the infobox that appears at the bottom of any pages to do with the club.

I'm also considering doing a history of kits, and a pictorial year by year guide - does anyone have any further ideas/recommendations with this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Markh991 (talkcontribs) 09:27, Jun 8, 2007 (UTC)

Found this website http://www.kitclassics.co.uk/kits/Middlesbro.gif to help with the kits. BTW - is there a guide to making the kits around? I'm gonna do the 2007-08 page so need so help on how to make the kits.--Mofs 20:28, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
This should help. I wish I'd found it before I tried to design the early kit, which was a lot of guesswork! --Simmo676 20:40, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Cheers! Just had some fun making the 2004-05 kit - will be useful if anyone ever needs the kit for the 70's.--Mofs 19:04, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Tuncay

He has not signed yet. He has still to receive a work permit and thus has not completed his move. Please DO NOT enter him as a Boro player until that has been completed and verified on a reputable website such as BBC Sport.(UTC)--Mofs 13:28, 30 June 2007

middlesbrough as a yorkshire club

as middlesbrough are situated in North Yorkshire, i feel it is right to classify them and include them under the banner as a yorkshire football club.

it would seem this is how the legendary Boro born Brian Clough has a view of the situation too; "I'm really thrilled about the whole event - I may be a Yorkshireman but I'm Derby through and through... and you're not getting rid of me."[1]--SalvoCalcio 02:22, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Middlesbrough is located in North East England, one of the official Regions of England according to all their Wikipedia articles, so I would say Middlesbrough, although historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire and part of the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, is actually in North East England regardless of how Clough saw it. --Simmo676 14:25, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

New kit

Looking at the kit Simmo676 did for the kit, I was just wondering whether the kit was meant to solid red? Aren't the stripes just the way the kit is made - looking at the pictures of Cattermole on the club homepage they don't seem so pronounced. They just seem like the old 96-97 kit I had that had "boro" written on it and the transporter bridge on the kit as a "background" if you like.

PS: kit looks great on PES6 - didn't think we'd have gold socks tho'! :D --Mofs 10:41, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Based on this it did seem to me that there is a darker red part set of stripes and a lighter red set. Of course they are very, very similar. I just remember before they were revealed there was a lot of rumour that they would be red and dark red stripes, and white and gold, which turned out to be true, so I might be seeing dark red where it doesn't exist, but I thought that's what I saw there. It might not be pronounced enough to be worth putting on the image. --Simmo676 11:29, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Numbers for Aliadiere and Tuncay.

Aliadiere is listed as 30 on the clubs squad page on the official website. Tuncay - http://www.mfc.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/c0/c7/0,,1~3327936,00.jpg seen wearing a shirt with #17 in training. Mr Cool 19:32, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Turnbull wearing 29, Morrison wearing 30, Aliadiere wearing 11, Craddock wearing 34, Riggott wearing 18, Kennedy wearing 37, Wheater wearing 36 and Cattermole wearing 40 in training [in this link] lead me to dispute the use of a training shirt as a reliable source for shirt numbers. Since the official site does list 30 on it I suppose that is a reliable source (and it is what we're quoting as a reference), but it said Crossley was one of our players at some point last year for a few weeks so I'd doubt it is definitive until an official announcement. So I've reverted Tuncay until confirmation (though I'm sure he will be given it) but Wikipedia isn't a crystal ball, and the website we're using as reference for Aliadiere says he has no number yet, so can't include one yet.
As a new point, it has just listed Young as #2. --Simmo676 20:01, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
I emailed the Media and Communications department and they replied with this:

Thank you for your email. I've had confirmation that the squad numbers for this season for Aliadiere and Young have not been confirmed to date. Also, the numbers on the training kits have no significance and are just randomly assigned. The full up to date squad list will hopefully be out soon.

So training kits have no significance and Young and Aliadiere's cannot be classed as confirmed yet. Plus, current players numbers could also change this year so none of it can be quite classed as definitive. --Simmo676 15:33, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I went to Boro vs AZ last Saturday - Tuncay was wearing number 30 and Aliadiere wore 11. I'm guessing that all the players wore their squad numbers for the season. --Markh991 10:15, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I heard he was wearing 17, not 30. Odd. But either way, the squad numbers were released yesterday and he's 17. --Simmo676 12:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Middlesbrough FC's crest

You have in your information about Middlesbrough FC that a red lion is that animal in the badge but actually it's the mythical Griffin. I have many sources that say it's a griffin which is half lion, but half bird/eagle aswell. I don't know why Middlesbrough FC have Rory the lion as their mascot when obviously the designer of the crest must of knew he/she drew a griffin, maybe it was too hard to get a griffin cotsume i don't know but the creature on MIddlesbrough FC's crest is a Griffin. So please can you change your information to infrom whoever reads the info so more people are aware.

Thank You Middlesbrough FC supporter

I'm not sure what your sources say but it's not a griffin. For one thing, griffins have the heads and wings of an eagle. The animal on the crest clearly does not have the head of an eagle, as there's no beak on it, and also doesn't have wings. So therefore, it's not a griffin. --Simmo676 19:01, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
