Talk:Microaggressions in the classroom
Appearance
Peer review and responses during the educational assignment in Winter 2014
[edit]Figures (2 points)
[edit]A minimum original figure/flow chart/graph/picture must be added to the site
- Expectation partially met
- The authors added an examples section to the "microaggressions type" chart (from the existing microaggression page).
- It would be beneficial if the authors add examples not just of microinvalidation, but also of microinsult and microassault
- For example, what makes intentionally discriminatory acts "micro"?
- Remove exclamation point from chart
References (1 point)
[edit]A minimum of 6 references must be added to the site
- Expectation not met, references not listed/formatted
- We assume that they will be subsequently added.
Content (2 Points)
[edit]- 3 Sections Added
- Yes
- 3 Sections Added
- Intro for General Public
- Yes, though the intro is about microaggression not about microaggression in the classroom
- Intro for General Public
- Well-written
- Yes
- Clear examples of facilitator microaggressions in classroom
- Clear examples of microaggressions related to course content
- Clear examples of facilitator interventions, and appropriate responses to validate the array of student experience
- Overall a really great tool for a wikipedia reader!
- One question is, to which "classroom" does this article refer (ie- elementary, middle, high, college, graduate school, other), seems bias toward college
- Well-written
- Comprehensive
- Yes
- Comprehensive
- Well-researched
- Unknown
- Supported by inline citations, but sources not cited, so reliability of sources not verifiable
- Some sources are directly quoted, which should be fine, but it might be worth looking at whether they should instead be paraphrased and cited
- Well-researched
- Neutral
- For the most part
- "Instead of looking at the experiences as points of contention, it can be a great opportunity for students to learn and grow"
- This statement would read with less bias if supported by a citation, otherwise it comes off as being of the author's opinion
- Article bias toward context of higher education
- Neutral
- Concise Lead Section
- No
- Although the lead is a handy rereview of microaggressions, it would be good to cut straight to microaggression in classroom, since that is what the article is about, rather than a definition of microaggression, which can simply be linked. Might just be worth adding this section to the microaggression page.
- Concise Lead Section
- Appropriate structure
- The microaggression page has very little on it, and could benefit from your section being added to it, rather than creating your own page
- Make "Microaggression" spelling consistent (currently spelled different ways in some spots, ie: micro aggression v microaggression)
- Characteristics of microaggressions should be given its own heading, and the "consequences" point is better under impacts not characteristics
- It would be nice if the subsections under the heading "Microaggressions in the Classroom" could be indented or better distinguished
- Eventually, there should be a linked wikipedia page on Difficult Dialogues, since it is a pretty specific/academic term
- "Course Content" and "Classroom Climate" should be different subsections
- Clean up the "indented line" text between quotes, and get the quotes to align with their relative bulletpoint
- Put bulletpoints without supporting quotes last (it's easier to read that way)
- Conceptually, what is it that distinguishes the quotes, the "other approaches" and the Fordham/Colorado facilitator suggestions? It's not clear.
- Appropriate structure

- Appropriate images with acceptable copyright status
- No images provided, one chart contributed

Edits by Section
[edit]- Intro
- Intro should be more about classroom microaggressions, less about microaggressions, which already has a page that you can link (or add your page to it).
- Characteristics seems as though it should have its own section, rather than to fall under the intro
- Intro
- Impacts of Microaggressions
- Does the research say that the consequences are "including but not limited to" or do you? If it's you, consider deleting that passage
- Impacts of Microaggressions
- Micro Aggression in the Classroom
- Title should be spelled consistent w/ remainder of the article (ie: Microaggression)
- This section should be your article's introduction, with its italicized subsections made into subheadings
- "Student silence doesn't always mean an acceptance or aggressment with the statement, and can be a sign of feelings of oppression, both real and perceived"
- Remove contraction
- This section is the heart of your article, with really wonderful content that just needs to be reorganized a bit.
