Some corrections
[edit]Hi, full disclosure: I'm a Nokia employee just willing to help in corrections to the content:
- In fact MicroB is not the name of the whole browser application but the engine. The browser application doesn't have a brand and is simply referred as "Mozilla based browser for maemo", as visible at http://browser.garage.maemo.org/docs/browser_paper.html and the whole project page. Due to the lack of own brand MicroB has ended up being the non-official name used by the community.
- As far as I'm aware the MicroB engine or the "Mozilla based browser for maemo" don't have any logo. Where does the bee come from?
- It's not correct to say Firefox based. It uses the common Gecko engine and the expression agreed with the Mozilla Foundation is "Mozilla based". "Fennec" is a mobile implementation of Firefox developed by the Mozilla team (not Nokia) and available for the maemo platform.
- The N800 and N810 are mentioned. You might want to mention as well that the Hacker Edition OS for the 770 also features this browser now.

- Hi, again, Qgil, the help is much appreciated! :) Unfortunately, maemo seems to suffer from a slight lack of clarity community-side with a lot of its naming conventions and terminology, and any assistance is definitely welcome.
- * I did not entirely realize that MicroB simply referred to the engine and not the whole browser. Other than mentioning the names unofficial nature, I don't really see an easy way to fix this for the article. Perhaps Nokia could rectify this internally. :D ;)
- * It can be seen in both the favicon of the browser's garage site and the about: page in the browser itself. Should it be removed? (It is a pretty logo)
- * Fixed.
- * Also fixed. GeneralAntilles (talk) 20:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's quite ok now. I agree the maemo project has generated a bunch of names and not always with clarity. It is also true that the community has taken completely the name just as MicroB and even people inside Nokia do the shortcut and refer to it with this name.--Qgil (talk) 17:31, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure "Proprietary/EULA" is the actual licensing? The project page (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/browser) says it's MPL-licensed, and the source seems to be available freely from https://vcs.maemo.org/svn/browser/.--217.28.251.173 (talk) 14:58, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Google Gears
[edit]According to http://code.google.com/p/gears/issues/detail?id=292 it does not seem to be correct any longer that Gears is a plugin (or works, at least). The referenced thread in the maemo-forum seems to point in the same direction. A pity, since MicroB was the only browser on N8*0 devices that was capable of running Gears in the first place. :-( Since I have not tried it, I will not edit though. Someone with better knowledge please do so (or correct me).--Asdirk (talk) 14:16, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on MicroB. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20080315184719/http://www.internettablettalk.com:80/forums/showthread.php?t=17715 to http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17715
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.
