DYK

Loads of potential for DYK for when this eventually goes live. "Did you know... that when Danny Dyer was cast in EastEnders as Mick Carter, he was hailed as "the saviour of the soap"?" Or something like that. –anemoneprojectors09:52, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Danny Dyer

For 25 December - "Did you know... that Danny Dyer (pictured), who makes his EastEnders debut today as Mick Carter, has been called "the saviour of the soap"?" –anemoneprojectors17:08, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Could do this for a double DYK if I also get Carl White out at the same time - "Did you know... that Danny Dyer (pictured), who debuts as Mick Carter in today's episode of EastEnders, was also approached to play Carl White in the show?" –anemoneprojectors13:03, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Got double DYK on 25 December 2013. –anemoneprojectors15:55, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Series 10 epsiode 6 (3 October 2013) of Celebrity Juice included a VT of Keith Lemon doing an impression of Danny Dyer as a pub landlord, to illustrate the news that he was to play the Vic's new landlord. Just need to find a source discussing it. –anemoneprojectors11:16, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lemon did another impression when Dyer was on the panel, in episode 11 of series 10 (7 November 2013). –anemoneprojectors12:08, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff I have removed

[edit]
  • "It was also reported that Mick's arrival as the new pub landlord would leave current landlords Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) and Roxy Mitchell's (Rita Simons) future uncertain,[1][2]" I removed this because it doesn't match up to storylines from between announcement and arrival, i.e. Alfie and Roxy broke up.
  • "All About Soap wondered how Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) would feel about the family of his ex-girlfriend Shirley overtaking the Mitchell family as "top dogs in Albert Square".[3]" I removed this because it doesn't really feel right, though I think I may be able to include it again at some point.
  • "Daisy Wyatt from The Independent said, "At least [Dyer's] accent won't be a worry!"[4]" I've removed this from reception because, although it implies that his acting would be a worry, it doesn't explicitely state that. –anemoneprojectors11:34, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "A number of teaser trailers were released by the BBC in relation to Mick's introduction. The first was released two days before the character's announcement, on 29 September 2013, and showed a "for sale" sign outside The Queen Victoria, suggesting that the pub was to be sold in an upcoming storyline.[5][6]" Removed because there's no evidence it's connected to Mick. I believe other stuff is coming first, and the pub is already up for sale. –anemoneprojectors12:12, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "It was reported that Dyer may have accepted this role because his film company, Old Mother Media, went into liquidation in August 2013, owing £30,000, including £25,000 in tax.[7] Dyer apparently confirmed this on 19 October 2013, when he told the Daily Star, "I felt it was the right time for me. I know I've made a few rubbish films and had a bit of bad luck. So really I needed a regular wage coming in."[8]" removed this because he said has now said he agreed to the role because it wasn't "obvious" and his wife would be Kellie Bright - and this still has potential BLP issues. –anemoneprojectors15:34, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Episode numbers???

[edit]

Since when did we start adding episode numbers? We don't do that with older characters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.31.62.195 (talk) 12:05, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since AJ's article went live. We don't have the episode numbers for older episodes. This is relevant information and in a lot of cases more relevant than the original broadcast date because people watching in South Africa, for example, are several weeks behind, but are likely to know what the episode numbers are because they are listed on the BBC Entertainment website. Today, South Africa is watching episode 4761, which we saw on 12 December 2013. –anemoneprojectors18:04, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if the episodes were titled, we would probably use the titles (as well as or instead of the dates), so this is no different to that. –anemoneprojectors18:17, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Homophobic response

[edit]

I don't think the bigoted minority should be acknowledged in this article, though for the sake of neutrality, I thought I'd post here to see if people think that it should be included, along the lines of: "The scenes in which Johnny comes out as gay to Mick in the 3 January 2014 episode were largely praised by viewers, though a minority, branded "homophobic" by Dyer, complained on Twitter that the storyline was a "disgrace" and "wrong"."
