Who changed the portrait?
[edit]Whoever it was, it was not Hamel. The fraudulent engraving occurred much earlier than Hamel's painting. It was signed Ducornet, but even that may have been fraudulent. Hamel just used the engraving as the basis for his painting. The original engraving was by Moncornet and was never claimed to be Champlain. Sblanchard56 (talk) 17:14, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
