Pronunciation

Does anyone know whether it was pronounced "Michael House", or "Micklehouse" as in Michaelmas? The Wednesday Island (talk) 15:14, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just guessing here, but 'Mickle' or 'Meekle' would have been more standard prior to the Great Vowel Shift, so presumably the pronunciation at founding. No idea whether it would have changed with the shift, or whether (like Michaelmas) it would have remained more archaic. Wee Jimmy (talk) 23:56, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
