Spelling of Original Family's Last Name

[edit]

In researching the history of this house, I came across variations in the spelling of the original family's last name (i.e., Remp vs. Rhemp). For example, the 2000 book Greenlawn: A Long Island Hamlet refers to the home as the "Rhemp-Smith House", the gravestone for Michael's son Joseph at the Huntington Rural Cemetery is inscribed with "Joseph Rhemp/Died May 15, 1862/Aged 80 Years", but the 1858 map of Suffolk County identifies the house as "J. Remp". The National Register of Historic Places and the Town of Huntington Code both refer to it as the "Michael Remp House", so I don't think any changes are currently needed to the title of this article, but I wanted to point this out in case others are doing more research on this subject in the future. – Transpoman (talk) 12:45, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
