Michael Reich Page Edits
[edit]Hi,
I'm a colleague of Michael's. He's concerned about some inaccuracies and non-neutral point of view issues in the article, and has provided some background and justification for his edits the other day (see below).
- This version provides more details on my writings and covers a much more complete arc of my career. They are fully documented as well.
- Michael Saltsman, who last edited this page, has published paid full-page ads in major newspapers attacking a number of economists who support minimum wages as Marxists and Communists-- red-baiting that should not appear on Wikipedia.
- Some of the removed material was subjective-- such as classifying economists into groups: neoMarxists, Marxists.
- Removed the influence on me as Marxism as it is incorrect.
- The removed references were either to items that were actually unrelated or reflected an incorrect summary (e.g., of my 2013 testimony to the US Senate).
- All references to Marxism are removed. There are many different versions and interpretations of Marxism. Many contemporary readers associate it with Communist Dictatorships and the replacement of the market by the state. Others view it simply as a brand of economics that is useful but needs to be brought up to date, much as Piketty does; still others as the theory and practice of reformist social democratic parties. Although Reich would subscribe to the latter two interpretations, this is is too big an issue to address on Reich's Wikipedia page.
We'd like to correct these issues, but being novices at making Wikipedia articles, are not sure of the proper protocol. Michael has created an edited version of the page, but we want to make sure that we follow the appropriate procedure before making any additional edits. We'd greatly appreciate any advice or assistance.
Thank you.
