Photo and a couple of small edits

[edit]

Hello! Many thanks to FoCuSandLeArN for reviewing this article and taking it live, with a few changes that look great to me. Now that I've read through a few times, I'd like to point out a couple of things that can be done as finishing touches, in the hopes that someone can fix them for me. For any new editors who might come across this: I have a financial conflict of interest as I am working as a consultant on behalf of Red Peak Group, Birkin's firm, and therefore I won't be making any changes myself.

First, the article could use a photo, and Red Peak Group has been able to provide one for me to upload: File:MichaelBirkin Profile2015.png Red Peak has confirmed that they've sent the permissions email over to OTRS for me. Can someone add this photo?

Second, Mr. Birkin pointed out that I've linked to the article for Hakuhodo (the agency owned by Hakuhodo DY Holdings) here, rather than one for Hakuhodo DY Holdings. Although Hakuhodo DY Holdings doesn't yet have an English article (it currently redirects to Hakuhodo), there is a Japanese article here. I'm wondering if in this circumstance the link to the Japanese Wikipedia article for Hakuhodo DY Holdings could be added or used in place of the current links to the Hakuhodo article? In case it's helpful, here's the article on interlanguage linking, and here's the mark-up for adding the link:

In 2014, Birkin's Red Peak Group was acquired by advertising and marketing company Hakuhodo DY Holdings (ja).

Finally, I've noticed a very small typo at the end of the article. The sentence which currently begins, "The collection of agencies Birkin has amassed kyu" should read, "The collection of agencies Birkin has amassed thus far in kyu."

With these changes, I think the article will be all set for now. Thanks again for the thorough review, and for any additional help editors can provide here! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 16:54, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've performed the requested edits; thanks for pointing out the typo! Is everything good to go now? Cheers, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 17:44, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's great, thanks so much FoCuSandLeArN! Would you mind adding the ja.wikipedia link for Hakuhodo Holdings in the introduction as well or removing the existing link there? Sorry for the trouble... Thanks again, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:42, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Have a nice rest of the week, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 20:12, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing orphan tag and citation error

[edit]

Hello again, editors! I've noticed a couple issues pop up in this article in the last few months, and I'd like to suggest some remedies. First, the citation error under References refers to two separate sources written in the same year by the same author, Maureen Morrison. One of these sources needs a new reference tag, as both are currently called "Morrison15".

Second, I'd like to address the Orphan tag on the article by adding a mention of Birkin in the following related articles: Omnicom Group, Interbrand and Brand valuation. I have a few suggestions for language for these additions:

To place in Omnicom Group's article, in the History section within the existing timeline (green is new, the rest is already in the timeline):

Markup

2. To place in the article for Brand valuation under the section for Brand value (all new wording):

  • Brand valuation emerged in the 1980s.[4] Early firms involved in providing brand valuations included British branding agency, Interbrand led by Michael Birkin,[5] who is credited with leading development of the concept[6] and laid out a brand earnings multiple model of brand valuation in the 1991 book Understanding Brands.[7][8][9]

3. To place in the article for Interbrand, within its History section (all new wording):

Pinging FoCuSandLeArN, who originally reviewed this article and Davidcannon who added the tag. Please let me know if these additions are acceptable and will resolve the tag! Obviously, editors can add whichever they please, but I thought suggesting some wording might help speed up the process. Let me know if you have any questions. • Hello again, Rhiannon. I'll review this over the weekend. It appears straightforward, however I'd particularly like to go over the "deorphaning" statements, if you will, i.e. corroborate sources. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 16:50, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've had a quick look at your references. They look good! But I'm not sure you understand what you mean by "deorphaning." AN orphan is a child without parents; we use that analogy on Wikipedia to refer to an article that has no "parent" articles — i.e., no other articles that link to it. What needs to be done is find other Wikipedia articles where a mention of Michael Birkin can be made. A good place to start might be lists of British businessmen — find a place where his name could logically be added, insert it, and link it to this article. Once you've done that, you can get rid of the orphan tag — the sooner the better! Cheers. David Cannon (talk) 08:40, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Hi David Cannon! Sorry if it wasn't clear above: what I'm suggesting is that each of the above additions be made into three "parent" articles, to create a mention of Birkin there that would then link back here. For example, Birkin was involved in the development of the concept of brand valuation, so I'm suggesting adding a mention of him to the brand valuation article. Does this request and FoCus's comment above more sense now? 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 13:38, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've proceeded to implement the changes, in two cases adding extra referencing and tweaking language somewhat. I'm ignoring Davidcannon's comment above, who doesn't seem to have read the request. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 14:08, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have amended the links to this article in the Brand valuation and Interbrand articles; they were pointing to the other Michael Birkin. Frans Fowler (talk) 17:43, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Frans Fowler! If you have a moment, would you be able to take a look at my request below. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:11, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi there! Per my previous notes on this page, I am working as a consultant to Michael Birkin and have a conflict of interest with this page and I have few requests for editors to update the article as they feel most appropriate:

First, the infobox link to Hakuhodo DY Holdings currently redirects to Hakuhodo, which is actually child company of Hakuhodo DY Holdings. As this is confusing to readers, I'm wondering if the wikilink on Hakuhodo DY Holdings can be removed, and a link added after it to the Japanese article for Hakuhodo DY Holdings? Ie.:

  • Remove wikilink in infobox from: Hakuhodo DY Holdings
  • Add Japanese wikilink (showing markup): Hakuhodo DY Holdings (ja)

Also, in the introduction, there's a small copy edit needed to clarify that kyu is the strategic operating unit for Hakuhodo DY Holdings. I'd also like to offer a correction re: the correct company name to use here to avoid confusion, as Hakuhodo DY Holdings is actually 3 agencies, of which Hakuhodo Holdings is one. Here's the change I'd like to request:

  • Current: He currently serves as CEO of kyu, a strategic operating unit of Hakuhodo Holdings.
  • Requested change: He currently serves as CEO of kyu, the strategic operating unit of Hakuhodo DY Holdings.

Finally, in the kyu section, I'd like to request that the last sentence of the final paragraph be updated to correct mention of Hakuhodo to Hakuhodo DY Holdings and add kyu's recent investment in design firm IDEO under Birkin's leadership:

  • Current: The collection of agencies Birkin has amassed thus far in kyu also includes Red Peak Group and SYPartners, which was acquired by Hakuhodo at the same time as Red Peak.
  • Requested change: The collection of agencies Birkin has amassed thus far in kyu also includes Red Peak Group and SYPartners, which was acquired by Hakuhodo DY Holdings at the same time as Red Peak, and, as of February 2016, a stake in global design firm IDEO.
  • Citation to add to support addition of IDEO:

Thanks in advance for taking a look at these changes! Let me know if there are any questions. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Quick ping to FoCuSandLeArN and Davidcannon who both reviewed previous requests here. If either of you have a moment, I wonder if you can assist. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:31, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@16912 Rhiannon: I'll be taking a look at these requests today. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 16:59, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
With thanks to FoCuSandLeArN, these updates have been made. FoCuS also asked me (via their talk page) about potentially adding an External links section: I was on the fence about this when preparing the draft, so opted to leave it out. If others think one could be added—with links to his professional profiles perhaps—then I wouldn't be against it. Thanks again, FoCuS! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:47, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New requested updates

[edit]

Hi again! I have another request to update this article on behalf of Michael Birkin. This time, I have just a few small tweaks to bring the details up-to-date and clarify a company mention, all within the kyu section

First, Hakuhodo DY Holdings' ranking is no longer correct and can be updated:

  • Current: In 2014, Birkin's Red Peak Group was acquired by advertising and marketing company Hakuhodo DY Holdings (ja), the second largest advertising company in Japan and the seventh largest advertising holding company in the world.
  • Requested change: In 2014, Birkin's Red Peak Group was acquired by advertising and marketing company Hakuhodo DY Holdings (ja), the second largest advertising company in Japan. Advertising Age ranks Hakuhodo DY Holdings among the world's top ten agency companies.
  • New citation to add:

Next, there's a brief mention of "Hakuhodo" which I'd like to propose be updated to "Hakuhodo DY Holdings", to avoid confusion with other Hakuhodo entities:

  • Current: Following the acquisition in 2014, Birkin was named CEO of kyu, a new endeavor Hakuhodo called a strategic operating group.
  • Requested change: Following the acquisition in 2014, Birkin was named CEO of kyu, a new endeavor Hakuhodo DY Holdings called a strategic operating group.

Finally, I'd like to propose including a mention in the last line of the section regarding the latest firm that Birkin has added to kyu, BEworks:

  • Current: The collection of agencies Birkin has amassed thus far in kyu also includes Red Peak Group and SYPartners, which was acquired by Hakuhodo DY Holdings at the same time as Red Peak, and, as of February 2016, a stake in global design firm IDEO.
  • Requested change: To date the kyu collective includes C2 International, Digital Kitchen, IDEO, Red Peak Group, Sid Lee, SYPartners, and most recently BEworks.
  • New citation:

Or, if it's easier and the proposed text and sourcing are appropriate, here is markup for the section in its entirety:

Section markup

As always, I prefer not to edit the article directly because of my COI, so I'm looking for someone who is willing to help review and make these edits if they look ok.

P.S. I think this article would benefit from the addition of the hatnote "Michael Birkin". Similarly, the Michael Birkin article could benefit from the addition of the hatnote "Michael Birkin (executive)"

Thanks in advance and let me know if you have any feedback or questions about these requested changes. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:29, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FoCuSandLeArN and Davidcannon, as you've both reviewed my requests here in the past, I wonder if either of you would be able to help? Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 13:44, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have made the edit as suggested. I have not been able to verify the reference in Advertising Age, which (as 16912 Rhiannon notes in the suggested citation) is a subscription site. --Frans Fowler (talk) 23:21, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
