Memories

[edit]

In the very early sixties I used to motorcycle along Market Road every morning and evening. In the morning there would be herds of cattle being driven towards the market by drovers with sticks - an odd sight in the middle of London. In the evening, open trucks piled with steaming, slippery hides would drive out of the main market gate.

From the road, the area round the tower seemed to be crowded with sheds. At each corner, there was a fine building- these were pubs. The one at the south west corner has gone. The others are still there; two pubs for sale on the north side and the one on the south east corner very smart from the outside, named The Gin Palace.

Caledonian Market?

[edit]

Isn't it much better known as the 'Caledonian Market'? That's what everybody calls it anyway...The present title seems pedantic. Colin4C 20:56, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
