FA

So, I wasn't bold enough to nominate it the third time. I wasn't informed that the FAC had closed and the bot did something for me. But anyway, after 73 edits, creating whole sections, replacing dead refs, VG assessment, PR, and two failed FAs, METROID PRIME IS NOW A FEATURED ARTICLE! Yahoo! igordebraga 01:48, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

congrats on a good page i think the amount of work you did on this was worth it, i know of many people who have enjoyed the metroid series more by reading this

Wii-make

Turns out that Nintendo is re-making alot of GCN games for the Wii. Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Dark Echoes, (as it's known in Japan) are coming out as Wii games in Japan. Sorry I don't have a link but you can check IGN and pretty much any other gaming site to confirm this. Somebody should add it to the article. Zabbethx (talk) 17:11, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

In-game glitches

I'm not sure if this should be mentioned in the article, but in the game, I found 3 glitches which cause the game to temporarly freeze up in 3 rooms of the Chozo Ruins region. From what I heard over YouTube (I saw a video of one of the three glitches), some of the copies were corrupted. These glitches are normal, however, they rarely occur when playing the GameCube game on the Wii. Tomballguy (talk)

Items lost

"Prime is the first Metroid game to address the reason Samus does not start with power-ups attained in previous games" Didn't Metroid: Fusion address the reason for this in a very 'crucial to the plot and gameplay' kind of way already? --89.160.107.180 (talk) 21:20, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Prime and Fusion were released on the exact same day in North America (the first region to get either game), so it's not really a case of "one did it first" so much as both did it simultaneously. Either way, yeah, that sentence needs to be reworded a bit to match. Arrowned (talk) 04:12, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

So...

Do we have any new screenshots or scores for the Wii version yet? Like from Famitsu or something? Just wondering.Zabbethx (talk) 16:17, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Adding Japanese title to intro

I think the game's Japanese name (メトロイドプライム, Metoroido Puraimu) should be included in the intro's first sentence. Now, I know Metroid Prime was developed in Austin, and I know it was released in the English-speaking world first, but "Metroid" is a Japanese franchise. It's Japanese owned, and published by a Japanese company. I'm not asking to rename the article, I just think the Japanese name is worth mentioning in the intro. Thoughts? -Sesu Prime (talk) 10:42, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

We had it in before, and though it was eventually removed, earlier consensus seems to have been a bit split. There doesn't really seem to be any precedent on the wiki as far as I can tell; most articles for games developed outside Japan don't include the nihongo template for the name, but most of those games don't have Japanese producers either. I, unfortunately, can't make a decision, as I see the merit of both routes. I do think a heads up about this convo needs to be given to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games to get extra opinions though. Arrowned (talk) 15:57, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

If we add the Japanese name to Metroid Prime, we should also add the French name, the German name, the Spanish name, the Italian name, the Dutch name, etc, for the game as well; because although the game was based off a Japanese game, Metroid Prime itself (when taken as a single subject) has nothing Japanese in it, or at least is no more "Japanese" than it is "French" or "German". It wasn't developed by a Japanese company, nor was it even released in Japan first. Even the box art for the Metroid Prime series of games were in ENGLISH (example: http://image4.play-asia.com/350/8o/pa.156102.1.jpg)! And what about the Japanese name? "メトロイドプライム" is merely a romanji transliteration of "Metroid Prime"--versus, say, "メトロイド盛時 (Metoroido Seiji)", "メトロイド盛り (Metoroido Sakari)" or "メトロイド壮 (Metoroido Sou)".

But let's be realistic here: there is absolutely NO reason to shoehorn Japanese words in articles if there is nothing Japanese about them, or if English-speaking readers would not recognize the Japanese word (as was the case for the "Seiyu" article, which is NOW known as Voice acting in Japan). This is especially if the article was about an "English-first" subject, or if the subject at least NOT "Japanese-first". Now I can understand adding in the Japanese title for "Japanese-first" games, such as with the Elite Beat Agents article, which was originally based off Japanese game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. BUT, if the game was NOT produced by Japanese developers, and especially if it wasn't released in Japan first (and thus not know by anyone by its Japanese name), then there is no reason to toss in the Japanese name into the article.

Now if the fact that it was released for a Japanese-designed console (Nintendo GameCube/Wii) is enough of a reason to warrant a Japanese title, then we might as well add the Japanese titles to ALL Nintendo (and Sony) console games, such as NHL '10, Mortal Kombat, and all the repackaged Atari 2600 nostalgia games. And if being BASED off something Japanese (despite not actually MADE by the Japanese) warrants a Japanese title, then why doesn't the article for "The Magnificent Seven" have the Japanese title "Shichinin no Samurai" or the romanji "Za Magunfikanto Seban"? And then what about games developed in other non-English speaking nations, such as Ubisoft games... why don't THEIR articles have their home language's title in the intro sentence? Ubisoft itself is based out of France, but it's article for Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 lacks the French-language title ("Rayman Contre Les Lapins Encore Plus Crétins") in the intro sentence. To which, if anyone's gonna add "メトロイドプライム" into this article, it's only fair to add the non-English titles to other articles as well. Otherwise, DON'T.

So PLEASE everyone, look past your obsession with all things Japan and think LOGICALLY about this. Ask yourself if there is a RATIONAL reason for adding a Japanese title to a non-Japanese game/article, AND if that same reason hold no water if you replace "Japanese" with French/German/Spanish/Italian/Dutch/Korean/Chinese/etc. But just don't try to shoehorn Japanese words in because you THINK it should be added. The rules for article design needs to be consistent across the board; video games should NOT be given special privileges that aren't applied to other articles (The Magnificent Seven is the perfect example). - 66.92.0.61 (talk) 22:27, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Raven Blade?

Why does the link for the planned, but unfinished game Raven Blade just take you to the wiki page for Retro Studios?

Please remove the link, or at least create a page for the game the link is supposed to go to :-S —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.155.245.230 (talk) 23:34, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Info box

Was just looking at the article The Eleventh Hour (Doctor Who). At the bottom of the infobox is a link to the next and previous episodes. Is there a way of adding that to link this to prime 2 and so on? yettie0711 (talk) 14:07, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

"Metroid Prime Series (in order of in-game timeline): The Metroid Prime series is a separate collection of games featuring Samus Aran which has a different concept and game design to Metroid games."

Official PR: Prime does NOT take place ANYWHERE in the Metroid Timeline. Have a nice day. <3 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.62.208.50 (talk) 20:54, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Problems with article

I was thinking about creating a WP:FAR for this article after reading through it, because I feel that it fails 1b of the featured article criteria (WP:WIAFA).

  • The article mentions in the lead that there was significant backlash to the game's first-person viewpoint, but only mentions "mixed reception" at E3 in one sentence. This point should be expanded in the main article.
  • The versions sub-section (seen here) needs to be expanded and condensed-- as subsequent releases have come out, they've just been tossed into different paragraphs.

The first point's the biggie, because I feel there was significant backlash early on. I'm not really feeling an FAR though if these are the only two big issues that I can come up with, so I'd rather if we could just address them on this talk page. Nomader (Talk) 19:52, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Sales?

Under the "Reception" section of the article, it's claimed that, for instance, MP has sold more than 6.98 units in the U.S. alone while its citation lists it as having sold just slightly more than 1 million units, while earning a bit over $50 million in revenue. I'm going to edit this accordingly, unless anyone objects because I cannot find any sources saying that this game has sold that well.

Unreal Engine 2

It is certain that forum post from Assembler Games stated that Metroid Prime is running on "a very heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 2". The internet forum postings are not reliable sources, and statements in these posts does not support the claim that Unreal 2 is the game engine for Prime; unless it is mentioned by a reliable source, that is. Hounder4 (Talk) 11:13, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Indeed - the use of this engine is entirely speculation. Яehevkor 18:26, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
This isn't even remotely true, I'm a developer of URDE, a reimplementation of the engine, and I can say with confidence that that's entirely fabricated, including the claim that there are UScript source files on the demo disc. 73.181.170.129 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:58, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Problem with article

Its not that there's any real problems with the article itself, its the fact that whenever I click on it, like trying to click on a wiki-link, the page redirects me to [commented out]. Is anyone else having that same trouble? GamerPro64 05:04, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

I went ahead and removed the link to be safe. I never clicked on it, but perhaps you got infected with something that redirects you there? « Ryūkotsusei » 05:40, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Well it did say that the link may have malware on it. But the page didn't load up the first couple times and when it did and said it could contain malware, I didn't proceed forward. GamerPro64 05:42, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Someone recently went to WP:ANI regarding vandalism to a template at Samus Aron, (the main character from this series) causing a link to Blogspot so there is a good chance that it was the cause or at least related to the issues here. If it was the template vandalism that has been fixed already.--174.93.171.10 (talk) 23:54, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Mother Brain (Metroid) Article

Some joker has put up an invisible link that cover's the body of the article that takes ya to a link that spams audio and locks up your browser. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.178.143.84 (talk) 07:21, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

"First-person shooter" or "first-person adventure"

As per the separately archived discussion, either "first-person adventure" or "first-person action-adventure" should be used in accordance to reliable sources present in the article. -- Hounder4 11:48, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

Miyamoto has also professed a fondness for games to be in the first person perspective in an interview with Satoru Iwata. He then said he even wanted The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to take place in the first person perspective.[1]
