Last paragraph of plot summary

The last paragraph needs to be corrected. Liquid is not revealed to be the dominant clone. Dominant and Superior along with Recessive and Inferior are not synonyms. Liquid is described as being superior in the end because he has more soldier genes than Solid Snake. Please correct (ThatDudeCurtis (talk) 17:21, 11 August 2013 (UTC))

ThatDudeCurtis is correct, the last paragraph is based on a misunderstanding of the game. Liquid Snake has blonde hair and blue eyes (recessive traits) while Solid Snake has brown hair and green eyes (dominant traits); "dominant" and "recessive" do not equate to "superior" and "inferior." Liquid Snake, mistakenly, believed that because his expressed genes were recessive, they were worse. The conversation at the end of the game with Ocelot suggests that Liquid Snake's expressed recessive genes were actually superior to Solid Snake's expressed dominant genes.

By equating "dominant" to "superior" and "recessive" to "inferior," you are making the same mistake Liquid made.

{edit semi-protected}} I suggest you add on the mention by Ocelot of Solidus being the President of the United States and the third Big Boss clone. It is key information which serves as a hint towards what was to come in the sequel game. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.192.154.174 (talk) 23:05, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Plot Section - Torture Scene - Prisoner's dilemma

I propose to add a note about the nature of the torture: in the good ending, the simultaneous torture of Snake and Meryl is revealed to be a kind of "real-life" application of the principles of the Prisoner's dilemma. Snake, and Meryl by inference both refuse to "betray".

I wonder if this is original research or valid encyclopedic information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.101.162.208 (talk) 19:15, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Snake was being tortured while Meryl was imprisoned, if Snake give up, Ocelot Kills Meryl, she doesn`t have the choice of giving up, proof of this is that while in prison Snake can watch the torture machine and that every time Snake is tortured Meryl`s life is in the line. Chronology

Under the 'Story' subheading, it states that, "The story is set in 2005, two years before the events of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake," but in the box beside this listing the chronology of the story in the Metal Gear series, Metal Gear 2 is listed before Metal Gear Solid. Possible PlayStation 3 Remake

Yoshikazu Matsuhana has stated “If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we’d want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly.” Kojima Productions has stated the idea as well. You can find this in Eurogamer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nealsy (talkcontribs) 04:04, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Split

Proposing a new page for Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions/Special Missions, as it was sold separately and it has nothing to do with the story of MGS (actually it's a mission-based game), it's not an expansion per se, and probably deserves its own entry. Opinions? Punkalyptic (talk) 04:43, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

There has been a lot of merger in the Metal Gear articles, specially in the "characters" ones, anyway; sounds good to me, but you need two things to justify it, first: ensure that a proper article can be made about VR Missions and Two: look for other articles that were born in similar way. Zidane tribal (talk) 04:52, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the input. Although, if we decide in favour of the split, I will probably not be the one to start the process, as my experience with the game is little. But I will definitely help out. Baby steps; we can start by copying (with the necessary edits) the info that's already on this page. Will wait to see if anybody else is up for the task / or has a different opinion. Release dates for the PSN versions of Intergral/VR Missions/Special Missions (released probably around the same time as the Legacy Collection) should be added. 120.146.186.233 (talk) 03:19, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Not done for now: Please provide the release dates along with a reliable source confirming them. Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:32, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

It's been a while, but I may have found what I was looking for. Integral Release date (Japan) - July 11, 2013 VR Missions (USA) - July 9, 2013 Special Missions (UK) - November 26, 2013 Special Missions (AUS) - October 3, 2013 Source (not entirely sure if the former is reliable) - http://www.siliconera.com/2013/06/27/metal-gear-solid-integral-brings-vr-missions-to-psn-on-july-11/ https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/%23!/en-us/games/metal-gear-solid-vr-missions-(ps3-psp-ps-vita)/cid%3DUP9000-NPUJ00957_00-0000000000000001+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/712099-metal-gear-solid-the-legacy-collection/images --120.146.186.233 (talk) 07:58, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Solid equals third?

From the lead:

The suffix Solid has several meanings as it not only references the game's protagonist, Solid Snake, but also alludes to the "solid" 3D graphics, and its placement as the third title in the series.

In what way does the term Solid allude to the third title of a series? Is there some relationship between the Japenese words for "solid" and "third"? What am I missing here? -- Fyrael (talk) 07:57, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Actually, as I read this sentence again I'm also wondering how exactly the graphics are more or less "solid" than any other title. Is this whole sentence just some kind of weird original research or does this all make perfect sense to other people? -- Fyrael (talk) 08:07, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
The part about the 3D is becausem in the MSX games, Snake was bidimensional, now that he is 3D, he has "volume" therefore he is "solid" get it?, solid as in "Hey Bill, how do you have such a solid body? Bill: Thanks to the tridimentional nature of our dimention and steroids, jajajaja.
The part about the third in the game series does sound as original research. Zidane tribal (talk) 16:50, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
@Fyrael and Zidane tribal: A late reply, but just FYI. The meaning of the word "solid" is mentioned under Metal Gear Solid#Development and is backed by sources provided there, so technically this isn't an original research. However, those sources doesn't mention that "solid" allude to the third game in the series, but I'm not that really sure about that. – Hounder4 19:44, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Edit request on March 30 2016

Within the "Characters"-section, the word "Ninja" links to list of recurring Metal Gear characters#Gray Fox. However, given that Gray Fox has his own article (Gray Fox (Metal Gear)), wouldn't it be better if Ninja linked to Gray Fox's own article? Similarly, within the "Plot"-section, it says "The ninja reappears and Snake realizes it is his former ally Gray Fox, believed dead". There, Gray Fox links to list of recurring Metal Gear characters#Gray Fox rather than Gray Fox's own article. Wouldn't it be better if Gray Fox linked to Gray Fox's own article rather than his section within the "List of characters in the Metal Gear series"-article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.111.69.45 (talk) 12:52, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
