[edit]

A good thing to add to this article would be the results or consequences of metabolic alkalosis on the body. It has causes and compensations but not effects.Livingston 19:43, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Symptoms and Treatment?

[edit]

I notice that Metabolic acidosis has Symptoms and Treatment/Management sections, but this article doesn't.

How 'bout 'em?

I was looking into what makes for a healthy immune system and when a NaturalNews link came up in my search results, I clicked on it, for kicks, and found this doozy: ([The Jargon File cats and coffee warning])

Lemon is an easy way to start. Add lemon juice to a glass of water or your cup of tea daily to help maintain your body's internal "climate" at a pH that supports healthy bacteria instead of the viruses and harmful bacteria which thrive in more acidic environments. "source": www.naturalnews.com/029024_immune_system_natural_remedies.html [unreliable fringe source?]#ixzz2g8McexBZ

What tripe. Some actual facts here about why alkalosis is bad and how to treat it would be good. Discussions of prevalence and the actual impact of ingestion of (digestible) acids and bases would too, though perhaps not in this article. The only thing I found in related articles was some symptoms at Alkalosis#Complications and Respiratory_alkalosis#Symptoms.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3195546/ says "increased acid load results in very little change in blood chemistry, and pH" and "Much has been written in the lay literature as well as many online sites expounding on the benefits of the alkaline diet. This paper is an attempt to balance the evidence that is found in the scientific literature." (to be continued) --Elvey (talk) 03:22, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Syntex Laboratories and Neo-Mull-Soy

[edit]

This video by ABC10 news in California says that baby formula produced by Syntex Labs called "Neo-Mull-Soy" caused Metabolic Alkalosis which led to developmental problems as those children matured. Here's the report on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOJbvo55SqA&list=PLKNx7Usqhw7HT5Npa7PY9iQ76b0q9l0d- And here's an article about it at the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm4545.pdf Tzf (talk) 03:40, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
