Mention in Doctor Who
[edit]Merv Hughes, along with another Australian cricketer I believe, were briefly mentioned in a Doctor Who novel. I tried posting to the talk page a while ago, but I keep doing something wrong, and nothing gets posted. Fingers crossed this time. If it works, I can supply always more information later. 120.20.159.175 (talk) 08:23, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, so it did work this time! The novel in question is Goth Opera by Paul Cornell and the very-brief cameo references are on pages 234 and 236 of the actual paperback. However, there is a publicly-accessible online ebook version available on Internet Archive, with the references stated on pages 119 and 120. The link is below:

- One of the extracts are as follows:
- ‘You know, Merv,’ the Doctor grinned, shielding his eyes from the Tasmanian sunshine, ‘I’m surprised that the tournament’s overrun so much.’
- Merv twitched his moustache. ‘Bad light.’ He got up from his seat and wandered back inside the pavilion to get another tinny.
- Anybody think this is anywhere notable enough to be included? 120.20.159.175 (talk) 09:11, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
