[edit]Are we sure that this is the largest mall in the South Island? I'm a bit dubious about that. Could anyone check it up? The Dark Lord Trombonator (((¶))) 01:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Large?! I'm sorry but no mall in New Zealand can be described as largeAnglokiwi9286 06:33, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Anglokiwi9286
RCG Report
[edit]Originally posted to my talk page:
The RCG report on Meridian was inflamatory, ill informed, innaccruate and conclusions were drawn without accessing the financial information necessary to draw such conclusions.
Their "Retail Examiner" publication states that information contained within is "for guidance only" thus they acknowledge that its content should not be deemed factual. Wikipedia entries should be based on fact, not ill informed opinion.222.152.94.174 (talk) 02:47, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Nonsense, show me one word in the report to substantiate "inflammatory". The New Zealand Herald, the country's highest circulation newspaper, published the results. Kindly stop attempting to remove this well-sourced content for reasons along the lines of "I don't like it". Do you work at the Meridan, have a WP:COI? XLerate (talk) 04:40, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
The author of the RCG Retail Examiner had no factual basis for which to draw the conclusion that Meridian "languishes economically", they had no hard data in regard to foot traffic, operating expenses or turnover. Their conclusion was derived via assumption (as is acknowledged in their disclaimer that the Retail Examiner is for guidance only i.e. it is an opinion piece) whereas I am in a position to factually advise that their assumption was incorrect. I repeat that Wikipedia articles should be derived from facts, not opinions. 222.152.94.174 (talk) 20:50, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- There is still no evidence to substantiate the claims contradicting the NZ Herald. You need to supply a reference, a link to an ODT article, or publicly available financial results such as from the NZ Companies website or an ING annual report, per Wikipedia:Citing sources. "Languishing economically" to me means a mediocre margin compared with solid results from the others. And it seems unlikely AB would have sold it if the performance was stellar. There isn't a problem with "lacking a supermarket", the other half of the score? If there is some sourced information to show the other side of the coin from the RCG survey by all means add it in. I appreciate some of your comments, but such financial infomation is commercially sensitive and not published publically (and certainly not given to external consultants such as RCG). With that in mind, it is public knowledge and undisputable fact that the source of the Herald article was the Retail Examiner which is published by the consulting firm RCG, and it is public knowledge and undisputable fact that on page 1 of the Retail Examiner under "Economic" it states that RCG rated Centres on "ESTIMATED sales" i.e. the source of the Herald article clearly states that their conclusions were derived via estimates. It is also public knowledge and undisputable fact that the Retail Examiner features a disclaimer that states that the publication is intended for "guidance only", and RCG accepts no responsibility for "material within" or "errors". Add all that together and it is plain to see that the source of the Herald article was from an opinion piece that (by its own admission) used estimates to draw its conclusions for which they take no responsibility as to their accuracy and state should be used for guidance only. Wikipedia is not the place for opinions derived from estimates. Incidently, your assumption regarding the meaning of "languishing economically" is incorrect, if you read the RCG report you will see that "Economic" factors relate to the sales turnover of the retailers within the centre, thus by stating Meridian languishes economically they are in effect saying that the retailers contained within are languishing economically. If you wish to ascertain the facts regarding the reasons Arthur Barnett sold Meridian I'd recommend reading their page on Wikipedia which gives some detail into the level of debt as incurred by Arthur Barnett through the failed DIC venture, as well as the construction of Meridian, and the subsequent need to retire that debt. Do you really think that ING would outlay $53m to purchase Meridian if it was not performing? 222.152.94.174 (talk) 22:55, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
