Dear James,
I am a research assistant at the German Emigration Center in Bremerhaven, Germany. The theme museum is located in maritime surroundings directly on the New Harbor, in 2007 European Museum of the Year. The museum concept is unique in that visitors are taken on a tour through history based on the biography of an individual emigrant. Ottmar Mergenthaler is one of these 18 biographies. The museum will open at the End of April a new wing containing more on the subject of emigration and immigration. For our new and extended exhibition we want to complete his biography with further photographies and documents of Ottmars family. Now I am looking for his family. Do you have any contacts you can forward to us? Thank you very much for your help and looking forward to your reply. Please contact me: k.quirin@dah-bremerhaven.de.

Don't merge it
[edit]The Linotype machine refers to the machine, and the Linotype article refers to the style that followed. Keep them separate. Ebang

- Merging the company with a machine it made a very long time ago seems to make little sense - keep it as it is Dpmarshall 15:17, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Agree PLEASE dont merge these, I just hopped over to learn about the active and relevant foundry. If I had to wade through the mechanaical details of that machine at this moment, that would be poor for me- they are two too different things.--69.245.7.106 05:10, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Agree To me "Linotype" refers to the company, a viable type foundry whereas the machine is largely in disuse in this, the computer age. pablohoney 16:45, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Rename
[edit]Would there be any opposition to moving the article to the company's actual current name, either Linotype GmbH (currently a redirect) or Linotype (company)? Those are the options, as, per WP:NCCORP, either the legal or another suffix can be used to disambiguate when the suffix-free title is a disambiguation page, as Linotype is. The Mergenthaler name is antiquated; its retention would be equivalent to naming the Altria article "Philip Morris" or Sony "Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K.". Mergenthaler Linotype Company, of course, would be retained as a redirect. Эlcobbola talk 14:42, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- I think that a move would be in order, and I think "Linotype (company)" would probably be the best target for the move, as then it wouldn't have to be moved again should the company's name change again, and it's a bonus that the name is still a red link. On the other hand, I note that there seems to have been more than one "Linotype company", per the EL "The Linotype & Machinery Co. Ltd - information sheet on the UK company from the Museum of Science and Industry (Manchester)": I have no idea what would you make of that, but it's a thought.
