I think the discussion of what Merck is and the different companies that are identified as Merck is good, but I fear it has taken the place of a proper introduction. I think it should be incorporated into the article.

Opportunity

The figures relating to number of employees is completely incorrect and from a significant time ago. The Merck Group employs approximately 35,000 people (including Merck Serono). There is no mention of the Merck Consumer Health Care group, which is a Core sector of the Pharmaceutical division. The CHC group includes the company Seven Seas, which is globally known for its broad range of products to promote Health Naturally. In addition, the acquisition of Serono is completed.

Merck, Von Braun etc

After WWI and WWII Americans and Russians took control of a great part of German patents and there was an impressive transfer of R&D from Germany to both the U.S. and the USSR. In fact, the American and Russian space programmes are broadly based on stolen German patents under the Morgenthau Plan which dismantled dozens of German factories and promoted an agressive policy of brain drain from Germany. It is admirable that in spite of this massive robbery Germans did find new fields for development of their economy. The World´s largest companies are part of the oil industry. Germany was excluded from the oil industry the same way it was excluded reunification with Austria. But they found a new energy field, gas (E.On, for example) and a foot in the energy camp in spite of being excluded from oil. German space high tech was stolen, packed and sent to the U.S. and the USSR but Germany has an important participation in both Airbus and the E.S.A. (European Space Agency) Something similar to Merck, which is rebuilding itself to become a World company.
