Isn't the official name of the electoral ward "Menai (Caernarfon)" post-1996? That's what is on legal electoral documents. Llew Mawr (talk) 13:17, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

When I wrote the article I interpreted the (Caernarfon) suffix as a form of disambiguation from the Bangor ward. But then I've called it "Menai (Caernarfon)" later in the article. I won't lose sleep if the article name is moved to "Menai (Caernarfon)", though I don't really think it's necessary. People refer to it simply as "Menai". That's exactly the internal debate I was having too. The name did cause me a little surpise when I saw it at [[Menai {disambiguation}]], so I was just canvassing for a second opinion.
In hindsight, I think you are right that the title is fine since people still call it "Menai". That makes that the WP:COMMONNAME regardless of any official one.
The other question, which I'm really not interested in pursuing, is whether including "ward" is itself unnecessary precision if there aren't any other things called Menai in existence in Caernarfon given that there is no naming convention in the guidelines or on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom to include the word in ward articles like there is at Wikipedia:WikiProject UK Parliament constituencies. It might ne nice to at least agre whether to call them "electoral ward", "ward" or "division" on cases where a disambiguating parenthesis is already required by WP:PRECISION.
