Pending outcome
[edit]There are no current Members of Parliament. They cease to be Members when Parliament is dissolved. When the seats are declared they become members-elect. While their terms are backdated to 31 January, they are not Members until sworn in. "Dissolution has the following effects on the Legislative Assembly: Members of the Legislative Assembly cease to be Members." [1] (p18) 60.242.1.97 (talk) 09:16, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- That's simply not the way it works. Let us consider, as an example, Mary-Anne O'Neill, member for Kallangur 2009-12. According to your logic, O'Neill's term should end on 19 February 2012, as that was the date of the dissolution of parliament. And yet, upon consulting her formal parliamentary record, we see her term ending on 23 March 2012, the day of the election (and her defeat). I know federally it actually differs if the member intends to recontest (i.e. retiring MPs' terms finish on the dissolution, recontesting but defeated ones on the date of the election), but that doesn't seem to be the case for Queensland. 2019 versus 2018
[edit]The renaming of this page to reflect the move of Queensland to four year terms has been done in error. Four year terms do not commence until after the next election, which remains due in 2018. The legislation to amend the Constitution does not commence until the summonsing of the parliament following that election. See section 1A of the amending act at https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/ACTS/2016/16AC015.pdf.
If there are no objections within a week, I propose to shift the content of the page back to Members of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, 2015–2018, make consequential edits and turn this page into a redirect to the former. I will flag this on the talk page of the user that made the original change. Alaric004 (talk) 06:55, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- As the one who moved it, I agree, do it. --Canley (talk) 07:20, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- Given the agreement of the original editor, I'm going to make the change immediately. Alaric004 (talk) 07:47, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
