Melton Skaters and the Melton Skatepark

[edit]

I am writing this to ask that the Melton Skaters link is not removed from the External Links section again, for those of you who don't know the Melton Skaters group have been working for the last 5 years to get a skatepark in Melton Mowbray, and we wish people to know about our project.--Churchill 17:23, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pork pies

[edit]

Do the words used to describe the pork pies more reflect something to be read in an advert. No an encyclopedia entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.255.104 (talkcontribs) 18:13, 19 November 2006

I agree, I've removed them. Also, any description of pork pies is not really relevant to this article, which is about the town, but to the pork pie article. Thryduulf 20:25, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notable People! Timothy Cullen?

[edit]

Now I happen to have heard of Tim Cullen but I strongly doubt he has the credentials to be deemed a "notable person" from melton Mowbray. Does anyone else agree he should be removed?

In the absence of any opposition I have removed Mr Cullen. If someone can give a legitimate reason why he is notable person (in the wider context beyond the town) then feel free to put him back.

Tim Cullen for those who don't know, care or can be bothered to remember was a ward councillor serving on the Asfordby Parish Council, also a Borrough Councillor and was the Independent Mayor in 2001.

He was remarkable in that during his time he chaired and led the many meetings that led to the construction of the Brentingby Damm: Thus the Borough of Melton doesn't flood anymore. There had been four major floods, but in recent times while everywhere else has flooded Melton and Asfordby has been secure. They should put a statue up for him for that alone. He dealt with the Iron works, beingbought out and going onto short time 9others were not too bothered), helped secure employment with the Virgin test track (also in Asfordby) and worked on both the opening of Asfordby Mine and its' closure from privatisation (Budge)dealing with the notorius Arther Scargill through negotiations. A real caring citizen and a gentleman.

Outside this: I understand in 2001 he was awarded the international prize for his committment to professional photography and a specialism for close up high magnification work.(His work and knowledge of the principles of optics, led to changes in the manner specialist cameras are put on aircraft. A remarkable achievement.

Going further back he was a sporting star. He recieved many notable awards, including a Bronze european medal for water skiing.

Unbellievable that you should remove him, he should be noted for his achievements! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.43.230.142 (talk) 02:22, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure the people of Melton and Asfordby are very grateful for the public service given by Timothy Cullen. Feel free to reinstate him. I don't think that being a local councillor is alone enough to warrant being a "notable Meltonian" or even a notable person of any other town/city for that matter. If the information you refer to is accurate (and I have no reason to suspect that it is not) then maybe he is deserving of a page of his own.

This article has been "vandalised" numerous times with humourous Characters who claim to be from the town and who are famous for all sorts of "humorous" reasons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.31.11.96 (talk) 12:48, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've had to remove some content from the article (whilst I was standardising the headings and so on), as a large amount of the text was a breach of WP:COPYVIO, having been copied and pasted here from www.melton.co.uk.

To those who did this, please don't! And to those who didn't please watch out for a repeat of this, and reword/restructure any other prose which may have been copied from that site and elsewhere. El.Bastardo 15:52, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the remarks about the Melton Times which sounded like an advert, and the reference to an employee which whilst amsuing is not at home here in wikipedia.Stripeyfox 19:34, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable People: Mehmet Dickens

[edit]

I've removed the ref to this person for the second time because it looks unlikely to be genuine and I can't find any sources to back it up. If anyone can cite a reliable source, feel free to put him back again! Neiltonks (talk) 16:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dickinson & Morris - advert?

[edit]

I believe the reference to the Dickinson & Morris shop breaks the guidelines as it's just an advert, and should be removed. There are lots of places in Melton where Melton Mowbray pork pies can be purchased! If no-one objects I'll remove the reference in a week or so. Neiltonks (talk) 15:41, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Use of RAF Melton Mowbray for DP Camp

[edit]

Can someone check the accuracy of the years the air base was used as a displaced persons camp by the Polish Resettlement Corps? The PRC disbanded in 1949, but this page states it was used in the role until 1958.Cloptonson (talk) 18:56, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
