To whom it may concern, this characters does not appear to be significant enough to warrant their own article. They have two extremely minor appearances in Star Wars works, along with book versions of one of those (in other words, the introduction is very misleading). This would be much better served as a redirect to List of Star Wars characters#Ruescott Melshi, where any notable information can be collected there. Hello. Until two weeks ago, I would have agreed with that assessment. However, I think we will see the character become more important so I wanted to start this process now (it's my first page!!)
Check the references - the creator of the show and the two writers have been interviewed about it in the last fortnight. We've already seen the character play an important role in Andor's timeline, arguably one of the most important characters in cannon, so the signs are there. Plenty less notable characters in the Skywalker saga have their own pages on here, without Melshi, they would never have got the Death Star plans. Plus, this is a cannon character, there are mentions all over the place of legends only characters from novels only. ELdEL69 (talk) 23:30, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What's misleading about the intro? Because I include the minor mentions? I copied the structure from other characters' pages (including some you've edited!). ELdEL69 (talk) 23:34, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have to admire your enthusiasm, and congratulate you on this being your first page! I should have led with that, and I should also welcome you to the Star Wars WikiProject! I only found this page after attempting to create a redirect and seeing that this was already occupying the namespace.
At this moment, there is no way to know how notable this character will end up being, so I would say that this falls under WP:TOOSOON. As such, I will amend my earlier position to recommend this page stay at draft level for now, until the finale and into season two. From there, we will know if there is enough material to justify its existence alongside the other character articles. Individual Star Wars articles can be seen at Template:Star Wars universe, and I would argue that almost every single one of those is more notable than Melshi (and some I would argue need to be sent to draft space; that is a conversation for another time and place... but looking at you Garsa Fwip). The character is really not that important at the moment; even Chirrut and Baze do not have their own articles yet. In-universe existence or importance is not enough to justify discussion on this encyclopedia. I would recommend reading WP:NOT (policy) and WP:FANCRUFT (essay).
I was a bit harsh about the introduction, but it currently reads as if the character has appeared in many projects: Melshi has also been in Star Wars books, audiobooks, and a video game. Based on the content in the article, this is somewhat misleading, as all of the books, audiobooks, and comics are the same product as Rogue One, and the computer game is only a mention of the character, not an appearance.
In either case, I'm glad you came to the talk page to have this conversation, and I hope we can mutually reach a conclusion that is worthy of the encyclopedia. TNstingray (talk) 01:03, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello.
Thanks!! To be honest, I am surprised it has taken me so long in life to get in about star wars on here :). I thought Chirrut, Baze and loads of others already had pages, gues I did not notice they were redirects instead of links to pages - apologies!!
Yes, I agree with the intro after I reread it, and I'll change it.
How long is the process usually? I had understood it was going to take about 4 months, obvs, season 2 isn't going to be on by then - soi can articles sit ion draft for longer?
