[edit]The photograph, captioned "Melba Roy in 1960", shows her standing next to a control panel which very strongly resembles the front panel of an IBM 7040 or IBM 7044 computer. That computer was announced in 1961, and first delivered in 1963. Quadibloc (talk) 13:52, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
- However, while the console in the photograph has a strong superficial resemblance to an IBM 7040 console, detailed examination shows that the arrangement of components is very different in detail, and the device appears to possibly be designed to do arithmetic on 32-bit quantities instead of 36-bit quantities. A web search for "Experimenters Test Control" in connection with NASA turned up a document about a system for data reduction for the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory that involved an IBM 1401 computer.
