Death

[edit]

On 15 September, an IP added her date and place of death, without a reference. Don't you think, Nikkimaria, that a ref not considered reliable is better than no ref at all? I don't think so. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:11, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so either. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:18, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I was not clear. I don't think we should have a day and place of death with no reference, as you left it when you removed it. I understand that findagrave is regarded as unreliable when biographical data are in question, but why not use it for a place of burial and date of death when there is nothing else? (Different topic: blank lines in indented discussions confuse the program reading to the vision-impaired.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:07, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Having a user-generated source is essentially equivalent to having no source: in both cases it's an unsupported claim by a random netizen. But the difference is that having a citation makes it appear the claim is sourced - inappropriately so. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:27, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
