Crafty southpaw

[edit]

I became a Red Sox fan back in 1950, listening to broadcast radio games vs. the Chicago White Sox by the commander Bob Ilson, that was a grand era of baseball. Jackie Jenson, Jimmy Piersall, Dom Diamagio, Grady Hatton, Milt Bolling, Ted Lepcio, Harry Againas, Sammy White, George Kell and a host of other good Boston players. Oh, did I mention the thumper, Teddy ballgame - last player to hit .400. I saw Ted at his Hitters Hall of Fame in Florida near his estate at Citrus Hills. Also there were Stan the man, Duke Snider and other great ball players of that era. Mel Parnell was a fan favorite then as he is now, a tough hurler always pitted against the likes of Billy Pierce or other teams ace's. I recall thinking Mel was our one chance of a team win vs. Pale Hose as our other pitchers were somewhat suspect. My one regret was that I never got to meet any BoSox players and rarely got to watch them in person until Milwaukee Brewers came into the American league, before they fled to the senior circuit. Over the years I have watched Boston play in Kansas City, Minneapolis MN, Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit. Hopping one day to get to dear old Fenway Park and soak in the historic treasure of that grand old ballpark. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.56.61.50 (talk) 19:21, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
