Renaissance fair?
[edit]The article was added to Category:Renaissance fairs. I wonder whether the Medieval Market of Turku classifies as of Renaissance fair, which reems to give the term a meaning as a USA version of the theme. Adding the market to the category thus seems to suggest that the Turku medieval fair is closer to the tradition in the USA than to the European tradition. I am no expert on the subject, but I would like to see a reference or at least a discussion here, before accepting that.

- I made that categorization. Based on discussion at Talk:Renaissance fair#Not unique to the Anglophone world, User talk:Florian Blaschke#Terminology: Renaissance fair, de:Mittelaltermarkt, Medieval festival, and de:Diskussion:Mittelaltermarkt#Renaissance fairs und Mittelaltermärkte auf den Commons, it appears that Renaissance fair and de:Mittelaltermarkt are minor variants on the same activity: historically-inspired events oriented to entertainment and commerce rather than education and accuracy. The German Wikipedia article mentioned the Medieval Market of Turku, and even uses a photo of it in the lead. I have no personal knowledge of the Medieval Market of Turku (never heard of it until I saw in mentinoed in the above German Wikipedia article), so if that is not the case, feel free to remove the categorization, but in that case Commons and German Wikipedia may also need correction. cmadler (talk) 12:18, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]As the market is one of the largest summertime events in Finland, I would say that it meets the notability guideline for events and the template should be removed.[1] Aceman87 (talk) 17:16, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
