need for dab page or not
[edit]Only one of these are refered to as Mayo House! --Pontificalibus (talk) 20:31, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry for causing some confusion by saving a first draft page without the {{NRHP dab needing cleanup}} tag on it. You are correct that there is only one place named exactly "Mayo House" as the first name for it in the U.S. NRHP official naming system, but, as for other houses of format "Lastname House", other ones of format "Firstname Lastname House" will often be referred to as Lastname House as an official NRHP alternative name, and also will commonly be called "Lastname House" in local usage and often in other sources. Also, there will be other houses of same name in other countries. Google searching will turn up many places. For this name, there is, for example,a Mayo House in England. I don't want to add that as a redlink to this list, because unlike the NRHP ones, I don't expect that is necessarily wikipedia-notable, but it supports the idea that readers may be looking for a different place than the Arkansas one, if they search on Mayo House, and they should be given a disambiguation page to see all they might be looking for (or at least all that we agree are wikipedia-notable). Hope this helps.
- P.S. For this dab page, it is now also a combo dab page: Dr. William Mayo House redirects here now. doncram (talk) 20:58, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining, after reading the NRHP info it all makes sense. I hope you don't mind I have tidy the page a bit, removing buildings not refered to as Mayo House (e.g. The Mayo House dab page had a Mayo Hotel, and the Mayo Building dab page had a Mayo Hall - it didn't seem there was any logic as to which was on which page so i removed them for now) --Pontificalibus (talk) 21:03, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, good. To my view, Mayo Hall probably does belong on either the house or the building page, but I don't know which, there being no article about it, and I can't and don't want to argue. (Hmm, maybe i'll start the article now...will see if info turns up.) I think it is subjective also about keeping or dropping the hotel one, but that is less likely to be sought by any reader, and quite okay by me to drop it. Yes a certain lack of logic and solid info. doncram (talk) 01:26, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
