Name of article

[edit]

If no one has any problems with it I will rename this article to Maurice de Saxe as that is the name his most known as in the english speaking world. Carl Logan 10:25, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I recently created a stub for Volontaires de Saxe (full articles in German and French). This was apparently Maurice's personal unit; mayhaps it should be mentioned here? MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:25, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page move reverted

[edit]

I moved this page back to "Maurice de Saxe" from "Maurice, Count of Saxe". The latter utilizes the French version of Saxony as if it were English, when "Saxe" is only used in hyphenated forms. If anything, it should be "Maurice, Count of Saxony" or "Count Maurice of Saxony". Seven Letters 04:21, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vague early service

[edit]

The introduction to this article mentions his service in the Army of the Holy Roman Empire and then the Imperial Army. However, the body does not mention the former and only mentions the latter in passing. The main source, Britannica, says he served with the "army of Eugene" without specifying which of the two armies. (The article about Eugene says "Imperial forces") If he was with the Imperial army at age 12, presumably he joined the other at an even earlier age. There seems no point in mentioning at least one of those early periods of service, but I don't know which. Better, would be a little elaboration.
