The result of the move request was moved to Matt Mason (cricketer). Aervanath (talk) 14:44, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Move over a redirect to a disamb page. Not known as "Matthew Sean", the reference and Cricinfo pages use Matt, not Matthew and as he's Australian, but mainly notable in England, using a country qualifier could be confusing. The Welsh cricketer only just qualifies on notability ground (3 games vs over 160), so a hatnote to him is appropriate. — The-Pope (talk) 13:08, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- But there are still 2 cricketers called Matt(hew) Mason or similar enough to be confusable with it: Matthew Sean Mason (Australian) and Matthew Mason (Welsh cricketer). Both need the nationality in their page names. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 16:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'd support a move to Matthew Mason (Australian cricketer). I'd have thought that was a better way of disambiguating than using his middle name, especially given that it sits nicely with Matthew Mason (Welsh cricketer). In reply to The-Pope, Cricinfo does indeed call him Matt, but CricketArchive (including the specific Worcestershire CA) calls him Matthew. I don't have strong feelings either way, though WikiProject Cricket (of which I'm a member, but for which I don't claim to speak) generally favours CA these days. - On second thoughts, Matt(hew) Mason (cricketer) would probably be better, given that the Welsh one is indeed so much less notable. I am sure, though, that the current name is not the right one. Loganberry (Talk) 00:37, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- Being a West Aussie I originally thought that (Australian cricketer) was the obvious qualifier, as I didn't know anything about his county cricketer career. Upon seeing the magnitude of it and the shortness of the Welsh guy's career, I thought (cricketer) was best. The headline from the news article referenced in the article led me to favour Matt over Matthew. After this is sorted the Matt & Matthew disamb pages need work/merging/cleanup too. The-Pope (talk) 13:49, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, on reflection I agree with you, and would be happy with Matt Mason (cricketer). I discovered that he writes (or more probably "writes") a newspaper column in the Worcester Standard, and since that's entitled "The Matt Mason column" I think that's good enough for me. I won't make the move instantly in case anything else has come to mind, but if you want to do so then please do go ahead. Loganberry (Talk) 00:33, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

- I have moved this page to Matthew Mason (Australian cricketer). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:01, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- and totally ignored our arguments above to move it to Matt Mason (cricketer). The guy's only played 5 games in Australia and almost 170 in England, holds an Irish passport and calls himself Matt, not Matthew. The-Pope (talk) 12:16, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
