Name?
[edit]Was that actually his first name? Or was it his rank? DS (talk) 20:16, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- His first name is actually unknown (only the initial letter "N" is known, detailed in Smithies, "Three military accounts of the 1688 revolution in Siam"). He was a general. Somebody changed the name of the article from "General Desfarges" to "Marshal Desfarges", although I am not sure that was a very good move... PHG (talk) 21:20, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- I changed it, thinking it was his first name after quickly reading through Google Books and LexisNexis. Upon closer examination, I can see now that I mistook a military rank (e.g., "Field Marshal") for a man's first name. Either way, I'm not so sure now that either "Marshal" or "General" should be used in the title. According to WP:MOSBIO, we should refrain from using honorifics, academic titles, and such. Looking over the military history categories, too, I've only come across one example of an officer whose encyclopedia article included military rank in the title. If indeed "N" is all that can be publicly verified, then we should probably opt for "N. Desfarges". J Readings (talk) 22:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Number of soldiers?
[edit]France–Thailand_relations#Embassy of Loubère-Céberet (1687) mentiones 1361 soldiers, that is almost twice as many as this article. Pleas carify. --194.95.59.160 (talk) 16:45, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
