First para inaccuracy

[edit]

The first para of this article needs an overhaul. MARS class carried far more than "miscellaneous stores." Spare parts, jet engines, FF&V, chilled and frozen, a bazillion pallets of soda, toilet paper, on and on; everything a combatant ship could need or want, EXCEPT munitions. FAS.org says it much more accurately: "The mission of the combat stores ship is to conduct underway replenishment in support of operating forces by providing refrigerated stores, dry provisions, technical spares, general stores, fleet freight, mail and personnel by alongside or vertical replenishment means."

The comment about fuel is incorrect. MARS class had no cargo fuel capacity, but they could transfer F-76 from their own storage tanks.Old CDR (talk) 00:27, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just one thing missing...

[edit]

It strikes me as odd that neither this article nor those about the individual MARS class ships (that I've looked at) say anything about the ships' replenishment capabilities. How many cargo and fuel rigs? How many heavy lift rigs? How many rigs could be flown simultaneously? The UNREP/VERTREP capability is the ship's main battery, with apologies to the Gunner's Mates. Without that, the ship would have no reason to exist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Old CDR (talkcontribs) 00:52, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
