1454 and inconsistencies
[edit]What about 1454? was it simply a play or did it happened really in 1454 as it is written in most websites about Marostica? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Umbeebmu (talk • contribs) 20:54, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- There is no historic evidence that it happened in 1454. I notice the "Festival Facts" and "The Legend" sections have no citations. There is dispute in Marostica itself about the accuracy of the Italian language wikipedia article on both Marostica and Piazza degli Scacchi, and I notice that between this article and both the Italian language articles there are several contradictions. This needs to be brought up to date. Wheelygay (talk) 14:56, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
Spoken language
[edit]"The spoken language remained Venetian which is forbidden and discriminated since the Italian invasion of Venetian lands in 1867. The Venetian Language is widely used throughout the region."
This is largely self-contradictory. I suspect the first sentence is a politically-motivated insertion. Ceartas (talk) 12:30, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
It is. The sentence was written by a Venetian writer, User:Raffaeleserafini. I deleted it and changed each "Marostega", unofficial name of the town, to the official one "Marostica" (the source of this is the official site of the town. http://www.comune.marostica.vi.it/ ). --89.189.60.152 (talk) 21:56, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Variety of issues
[edit]This article has a variety of issues and something needs to be done about it. Hopefully, somebody will contribute to improve the authority of the information, particularly for
1. Except for area and population in the box section on the top right, this article does not have a single source. That is a major problem.
2. There is no earlier history for the period before the XI century.
3. As already commented by others before me, no source is available to document and confirm the true story behind the 1454 chess game.
4. There is no information about the two castles and when they were built.
5. "They became inspired and set about reviving the biennial reenactment of the life-sized human chess match that had been interrupted due to the wartime events".
What was the year?
6. The first paragraph in the "The Legend" section is redundant with the previous section. The two should be merged.
7. "Marostica is also home to the Diesel Farm, a wine, grappa, and olive oil-producing establishment, founded by Diesel founder Renzo Rosso. Nonetheless, Marostica is also very famous for the production of cherries, used in the preparation of a typical cake, served in all cafes and restaurants in the area."
This should not be part of "The Legend" since it's not a legend.
