Simply because he is not of serbian origin, but of CROATIAN origin, which is the reason he and his family had to flee the Bosanska Gradiska area during the war! How can you say he's serbian with a familyname MARIN !!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.83.73.130 (talk) 11:55, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit]xxxx allows the years to line up correctly. Previously various sporting communities moved away from ????. Where the decade is known, but not the year it would be 198x, or if only the previous millenium confirmed it would be 19xx.[[U. Perhaps something to bring up at the community.Londo06 10:21, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

- First, I have never seen a single article with "xx" or "xxxx" in the club years. Second, it looks terrible. Third, where do you see that it is the given standard. Fourth, did you see the WT:FOOTY section about this? They agree xxxx looks bad. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 19:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Edit-warring
[edit]I see that there is a lot of edit-warring going on at this article right now. Please be aware that edit wars are completely ineffective when it comes to deciding article content. Instead, please follow steps at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. Especially important is to discuss things at the article talkpage as soon as it is apparent that there is a dispute. Place of birth
[edit]Marko Marin defently was born in Bosanska Gradiska. [[1]]--93.196.94.185 (talk) 21:06, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
- There was no town called Gradiska in the SFR Yugoslavia.
Eastern Bosnia is heavily forested along the river Drina, and overall close to 50% of Bosnia and Herzegovina is forested. Most forest areas are in Central, Eastern and Western parts of Bosnia. Northern Bosnia contains very fertile agricultural land along the river Sava and the corresponding area is heavily farmed. This farmland is a part of the Parapannonian Plain stretching into neighboring Croatia and Serbia. The river Sava and corresponding Posavina river basin hold the cities of Brčko, Bosanski Šamac, Bosanski Brod and Bosanska Gradiška. See[[2]], and see here [[3]], and here [[4]]--93.196.85.100 (talk) 22:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
@Hubschrauber
[edit]You just ignore the sources which are mentioned in “Place of birth”. Source Nr. 1 is given by google [[5]], source Nr. 2 is reffering to wikipedia.org[[6]]. Source Nr. 3 is reffering to The Cartographic Section of the United Nations (CSUN) [[7]] and source Nr. 4 goes back to Bosanska wikipedia [[8]], and look at this! [[9]]. Have a look at any map of Yugoslavia und you´ll never find “Gradiska”. --Speidelj (talk) 14:47, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Marin is a Venetian family name. Probably the early origin of his family was in Dalmatia or in Istria. Incidentally Marco Marin was an Olympic Gold Medal in fencing--Deguef (talk) 13:37, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Requested move
[edit]Marko Marin (footballer) → Marko Marin – This article was moved in October 2011, and although I understand the rationale, it makes no sense leaving a redirect without a disambiguation page. I don't have the page stats to hand, but I presume Marko Marin (professor) doesn't get nearly the same amount of hits. I dare say that the footballer in question here is the primary topic, regardless of his age. This reminds me of a similar equested move last year at Talk:Thomas Müller (please see for reference). I therefore request that the page be moved back to → Marko Marin. Jared Preston (talk) 16:42, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. Jared Preston (talk) 16:49, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
- Comment - why not fix the redirect and turn it into a disambiguatio page? GiantSnowman 12:03, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- Support. The footballer gets significantly more hits than the professor (last month, 6851 hits vs. 105 for the professor). Some of those may be attributed to the disambiguated title redirecting here, but since the difference is so clear it's better to have the footballer's article at Marko Marin and provide a hatnote for the professor. Marco Marin should probably also be hatnoted in case someone misspells that person's name and ends up here. Jafeluv (talk) 22:31, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Support as seems to be primary topic. GiantSnowman 09:19, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
