'Despite Croatian background'
[edit]Hello. The article states: "Despite his Croatian background, Hoare claims on his blog to have once been married to a Serbian woman...'. I realise that there is a history of animosity between the states of Croatia and Serbia, but the use of the word 'despite' seems to be verging on commentary and assumption, i.e., it suggests that (a) it is unusual, and contentious, for a Croatian to marry a Serbian, and (b) Hoare was aware that his marriage was unusual or contentious. Both of these may well be correct, but there are POV issues with (a) because not everyone would find such a union problematic and with (b) we have no way of knowing what Hoare thought of the marriage. Wouldn't it suffice to say 'Hoare claims on his blog to have once been married to a Serbian woman'? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ptsim (talk • contribs) 13:36, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. "Despite" should be removed. Bosniak (talk) 06:46, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

- Start by making it more neutral, with sources other than his own webpages or his blog in which, contrary to all acceptable scientific practices, he pampers certain nationalisms. The way it is now, it looks like the adoring work of a fanboy. Suitable for a fan club, but for am encyclopedia? Hardly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.143.177.172 (talk) 22:50, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion
[edit]The article Marko Attila Hoare has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
This BLP does not refer to a publicly significant person and reads as if it were curated by the subject. The sources are mainly their faculty page and blog, and includes no external coverage of the subject that would suggest they are a person of public significance.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 131.111.5.162 (talk) 16:50, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose deletion. Evidence of notability in article. Better to use an improvement template identifying specific problems with article. BobFromBrockley (talk) 12:55, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose this is absolute nonsense. Hoare is the author of several important books on Yugoslavia in WWII which are widely cited on WP and is a university academic. Please read the notability guidelines. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 21:34, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
